Found this little guy while playing around on the net. Looks ideal for those camping in hot climates. Takes up about as much space as a cooler.

Not sure how long Ice would last in the ice units, but I do like the design of them. The refrigerant units are pretty pricey IMO.

AT Sells this one also: I am interested to see how well it works, AT usually does a pretty good job on picking there products. Maybe a video of operation like the heatsource heater.... hint hint :)

How would something like that work with one of those small plug in coolers? Would the cooler be able to keep up with the heat transfer or would the small fan over work it? I've never had one of the newer electric type coolers they sale nowadays, I was just thinking something like that would save alot of ice overnight if they could work together.

Do those small cooler things make any heat when they run..?? Might have about the same effect as opening the door on your freezer to cool your house.. It'd put out cool air in the front, but it's mostly offset by the heat created from the compressor motor in the back.

I'm betting you'd go through a good bit of ice using that the ice AC setup in a tent.. Especially if it's hot enough to think you need it to make sleeping at night comfortable... urrr Tolerable.. (85+ in my case) Comfortable wold be about 70..

Honestly though unless it's above 85, I could get by with just a fan blowing on me to keep cool at night.

Token's got it right. The Peltier thermoelectric coolers transfer heat from the inside of the box to the outside, just like any other refrigerator. So if you leave the door open, or put a fan lid on it like shown above, you're just circulating a small amount of heat around in a circle. Plus adding the small amount of heat generated by the fans.

So, the net effect of a small plug-in cooler and a fan top as shown above would be a small rise in temperature in the tent/trailer/RTT.

what about making a set of sheets that work like the "Cool Shirt?" i was thinking one or two sheets, some surgical tubing, a small cooler, a small water pump, and some time at the sewing machine?

wet your sheet before bed and use a fan.............evaporative cooling - done.........I have done this is many tropical countries to good effect, to the point of waking up cold

I often wondered about hacking an engle or other 12V fridge and re-plumbing for a radiator and fan.

Ie the ampage per night is workable and the size is right...just taking apart a perfectly good $ 700 buck fridge for an experiment put me off.
