What should I do?

I would like some opinions as to wither I should trade my 2003 double cab for a 2011 reg. cab. My double cab has approximately 115,000 miles on it and it pretty much stock except for some slightly larger BFG ATs and a CB. I'm interested in a 5 spped 2011 reg cab and eventually outfitting it similiar to the one Tacovendor recently did... or do you think money would be better spent outfitting the 2003? My truck is my daily driver and also used for camping.

If you ever plan on traveling with anyone other than yourself, definetly rule out the regular cab. I had a 98 reg cab and it was always to small. Keep the 03 or go for the access cab at least.

How much climate controlled space do you want? Your bed is all storage, but it's also hot or cold depending on the weather.
I like the idea of being able to sleep in the back of the reg. cab. Figured it could be made pretty comfortable with an addition of a Bed Rug.

My daily commutes are solo and my camping or kayaking treks only add one other person. It's something about the simplicity of the reg. cab that attracts me, like the roll up windows that I find a dying breed.

Maybe you should trade for another '03. I've got manual everything in my ext cab (windows, door locks, J-Shift, and 5 spd.)

I think a big factor is, what size is the cargo bed on both? If you current truck has a long enough cargo bed to build a sleeping bed then I would build it up. At 115k, the truck is just getting started if it has been taken care of.

A regular cab is small and the seats usually don't recline to be able to take quick naps.

Toyota will no longer be offering manual tranny's with 4-cylinders, better check on that option first.

Too many people out there are lazy drivers. Unless you have a handicap, you should be driving a manual tranny.

Do you mean no 5-speed 4 cylinders after 2011? I haven't heard that but it wouldn't surprise me. I would have bought my double cab in a 5-speed if it had been offered. Bummer that it wasn't!

I am very partial to that style taco even though I drive a frontier. I say keep it and make it the expediton vehicle. They are bullet proof and you will be glad you have the extra room when it counts.

"Toyota has discontinued three low-volume manual transmission models and added five four-cylinder, four-speed automatic models. The new models are the Access Cab 4x2 PreRunner, Double Cab 4x2, Double Cab 4x2 PreRunner, Regular Cab 4x4 and Access Cab 4x4."

Looks like the AC manual is one of those killed, not sure on the others...

Seems like everyone is in agreement on keeping the 03 double cab. Probably makes the most sense since it will be paid off in 6 months. Perhaps I should just rebuild the 22RE in my 85, throw a cap on the back and use that for an expedition vehicle too! My 1985 is super clean with a full OME suspension, 255x85R16s and a snorkel.
