4Runner Driveline Issues

I would suggest some research over at toyota120.com, the 4th Gen experts site. I'm under the impression that few if any are running a center/diff drop for 3-in. on a 4th Gen., seems unnecessary.

Thanks everybody for your input. After looking at the joint in the daylight, there aren't any points of rubbing. The lift destroyed the original toyota boots (which had about 50k miles on them) and the mechanic I took it too recommended an aftermarket company for replacement axles and boots. These new boots just look like they are not designed for such extreme angles while turning and under compression. I think this week I am going to order a diff drop kit and look for some cv boots that can take a bit more of a beating.

Anybody have experience with this one?

x2 - most say dif drop not necessary with 3" lift on 4th gen.

X4 on toyota120.com. :sombrero:

I have 2004 V8 Sport with the 3" OME lift and no diff drop. Probably about 50K since the lift. I have lost one boot due to a tear but the extended warranty replaced that one for me. No other boot problems since.

Update

Ok so I took the truck back to the shop that installed the axles and they fixed it under the manufacturers warranty. :sombrero: So with the new axles I have solid CV's. Unfortunately I have developed some nasty, metal on metal, grinding at low speed and odd angles (like turning and compressing the suspension). I'm reconsidering the differential drop and attempting to correct this IFS issue.

Also my ball joints are on their way out and I wanted to know what advantage an aftermarket upper control arm setup would give me.
