AC Clutch replacement on truck. 01 4runner

So, after all the mud and water crossing a few weeks ago the AC Clutch is howling. Still working just fine, but the bearing is angry.

I am going to attempt to replace just the clutch/rotor assembly as Toyota calls it.
I do believe I'll need some sort of AC Clutch puller though. Since the shaft out of the AC Compressor is tapered. Anyone ever done it?
Will the generic AC compressor renta-tools from Autozone work?

I feel your pain Tim. I just had the entire compressor and clutch replaced on mine after going though a a icy/muddy hole.

If you need a new compressor Amazon sells the Denso one for a decent price.

You weren't kidding. For the price of the Clutch alone from a great Toyota retailer that heavily discounts parts I can get the whole Denso brand compressor with, stator and clutch assembly complete off of Amazon.

Wow, this may be the smarter way to go. Better to have a new AC Compressor with 0 miles since mine has 180,000 on it.

question, does it make noise constantly or only when you use ac?

Constantly and then when I turn the AC on it get's a little quieter, but if left on it will come back as soon as the compressor has finished charging the system.

Spray some TRI Flow or PB Blaster in the clutch assembly and see if it stops. Not long term just for troulble shooting.

Good call. I had that planned for tomorrow after work. If that works then I know I've located the issue. I think I already have, but before spending 250 clams it's best to be sure.
