yeah, sadly nothing in the USA is that easy.....unless you start with an older diesel Cherokee![]()
If you can spend the money, I think one of the best swaps would be the 4.07 MWM diesel from south america. They are passenger side turbo so the exhaust runs down the bare side of the undercarriage without a crossover. They are about the right size, power, etc. They are a 2.8L mechanically injected 4cyl. They can make some decent power with light mods. They where a factory application for the south american S10. They are suppose to have a 90 degree GM bell-housing pattern in that application. Adapting to this from the AX15 would be easy enough.
Just an idea.
Check out the 4btswaps forum. I know atleast a few xj /mj guys have done a 4bt swap out of a bread truck.
Here's a great example:

The benz om617 would be a great swap.
They're a little low on power, but the torque is great, and it's at such a low RPM.
There's a company making the adapter plate for the ax-15.
I would do it, but emissions would be a HUGE issue in CA.
My truck is registered in Florida, so no problem with a sniffer test:smiley_drive:
Yep, I found the guy with the adapter plate, looks good. I am, however more than a bit concerned about the power output of the om617. My rig is pretty heavy with a RTT, fridge, winch bumper Jerry cans, drawers, tools, etc. I'm wondering how much the power can be upped w/o hurting the built proof nature of the om617...
