Jeep Unlimited External Roll Cage

I picked up a French magazine at the airport and they had a picture in it (from an advertiser) of a nicely tricked out Jeep Unlimited 4 doors with an external roll cage - "a la Defender". Maybe I missed it but I had never seen this on this forum before.

I thought it looked pretty cool and seem more useful than the internal one. It was not one of the rock crawler model that wrap the whole thing but more elaborated. I wish I had a pic.

Anyone has seen this?

An external cage greatly affects side clearance that most vehicles need in tight areas, this is why just about all cages you see are tucked just enough to protect its occupants.

I found it:

It does not seem to affect side clearance too much as it is within the fenders.

Anything like this available in the US?

Yes, Off Camber Fabrication's MBRP roof rack is similar. You can buy it whole length or 1/2-3/4 length to allow removal of the two Freedom Panels. It mounts to the top in the rear though, and not under the top to the tub as the rack you show appears to.

Here's a link to Quadratec's site which shows a photo. http://www.quadratec.com/showcases/mbrp/

Looks like a roof rack to me, not an exo cage.

With the mounts on the one in the photo - to the top of the tub and to the windshield, it isn't a cage either, they are both roof racks.

A cage would go to the frame. The JK's already have a decent roll cage, though body mounted and it can be improved on more easily than with an external cage.

yes you are right, bad choice of word.

In any case, I still think it adds a nice "Expedition" look to the Jeep.

Why are you quoting me? I already stated it was a roof rack.
