few questions!

hey guys i just bought my first defender! its a 1984 defender 90 it has a 2.5 NA diesel
now what i wanted to know is how many quarts of oil will it take? and what type of oil is best to use? and there is a transfer case leak i am assuming it is an LT230 and looks like just the gear cover gasket, so simple fix but what kind of gear oil should i put in it? also i want to change the diff oil and what type of oil for that as well?
sorry if these are kind easy searchable questions but i figured it would be easiest for me to get them all at once!
thanks Dylan

If I remember correctly, the engine takes about 6L, so roughly 6qts of 10W40 diesel motor oil. Mineral will be fine - it doesn't get hot enough to scorch it because the engine has no turbo.

The transfer box will take EP90, as will all of the transmission except the main gear box. That should have MTF94 if you have an LT77 (5 speed), but I'm not sure what an LT85 takes (4speed). The rear bearing cover should be sealed with RTV silicone sealant.

Nice. Congrats. Pics? Where'd you buy it from? Did you sell your Discovery yet?

Buy an owner's manual. :)

Post up some more pictures!

Often the best way to get optimum power from an NA diesel is injection pump tuning. Look around and see what other 2.5 guys are doing with their IPs. Usually the first step is basic screw-turning to increase fuel.

Congrats on the new truck! Great color.

also i think i will keep the 2.5 NA for factory spec. its really not as bad as i thought. and when i decide it is time for more power and what not, i am going to order a 200 TDI. but thanks :ylsmoke:
