WTB: Kimberley Kamper or similar for a 2 adult 3 kid family

Greetings, I've lurked and missed the few opportunities when one came available for sale. I'd like to try and take the initiative and see if anyone is looking to sell one. I'm not looking to "steal" it from anyone but I can't afford either to pay MSRP on it either. If someone is looking to possibly part with theirs please send me an email or PM and maybe we can work something out. Semper Fi.

I was in your same situation not long ago. I too was watching for a Kimberly. They do not come up for sale often enough. During this time I spotted a few other "offroad" campers and decided to broaden my search. Things all clicked and we now have a Evolution E1
We have comfortably slept four adults and one older child in it.
I just about have it fixed up where I want it.
They have now been discontinued, but there are quite a few fairly new and new models still out there. They are priced very reasonably compared to other options.
Several other manufacturers have "offroad" models too. I think Starcraft has the Baja model.
None of them are "rock crawlers", but they will crawl over rocks. Forest service roads are cake. The package is large so two tracks get really tight. Ours is a base camp so went things get too tight we'll park it.
These might be a direction worth looking. Thought I'd shine a light this direction for you.

I had the Jayco Baja off road unit. The particle board inside is held together by staples and glue and some of it fell apart on a mountain road corollas could drive. The Kimberley is far superior in build quality and holds up much better off road. I was always doing little repairs to the baja and had lots of workmanship small issues.

The australians build campers to go out in the bush for months at a time and there is a lot of competition for the business there. In the USA, we build campers mostly for the 2-7 day jaunt to the national parks.

Just thought you would like the opinion of someone who has had both, there is no comparison and no I am not selling mine

Thanks for the heads up... I'll keep my eye out for one.. I probably don't need something quite as rugged as a Kimberley Kamper.. and the cheaper entry price of the Evolution is nice as well for something I really won't be using all that often...

You are welcome.
I will agree that it is not a Kimberly. I am sure the Kimberly will handle anything the 4x4 in front of it is capable of doing. The "offroad" pop-ups are no Kimberly. There will be compromises and differences for sure.
I did come from an extremely offroadble RTT trailer. On par with the best out there IMO. I enjoyed it very much. We just needed more room for the growing family. My thoughts on the E1 is that at least I can get "out-there" in the mean time, instead of waiting and watching for something more offroadable. Heck, I can drop the camper and set up base camp , then take the bikes , motorcycles or truck in as deep as I want to go.
The price is much cheaper. That leaves more for traveling. I like that.
Our biggest concern was room for family and a few conveniences for my navigator.
I think that we have those now.

Best of luck with your search. I did see a yellow one for sale in the classifieds here. I'm not sure where you are located? I'd be more than happy to help how ever I can though.

I have owned both (Romer is taking care of my old Kimberly for me :)). The Starcraft off road model (IMHO) is a better build than the Jayco. The Kimberly is in a different league all together. The advantages of the pop-ups is that they do have more interior room and they allo more light into the interior. Probably the better choice for a family with kids.

The Kim has no US made equals. There are some great campers that come from the custom builders but they do not have the room of the Kimberly when set up.
