Now were getting to the fun stuff....
With a Roof top tent comes a bit of weight on the roof, which usually involves a better roof rack, and with the clear coat starting to peel its time to address that before it gets too bad.
First up:
color matched line-x with UV protectant on roof...
After selling the RV the wife and I were trying to figure out what's next. We still like camping but I despise pitching a tent.
so naturally Roof Top tent became the next idea. Wife was onboard -- maybe more than me. So then the prep work began as well as some maintenance/repairs.
First...
I realized it's been quite a while since I started this thread. I haven't done much exploring per se more putting it to work towing trailers and family road trips.
I did do a little overlanding trip a couple years back...
Finally got the winch mounted (Warn M12000) Did an overland camping...
@NavyGator is that a fully custom rack or did you use a rack off the shelf and modify to fit? It looks really good. Almost like it was made specifically for that body style.
Sweet rig. Congrats. At 200k miles I assume they’ve either had motor work done or disabled the AFM. I’d be surprised if it hasn’t. Either way might be something to look into. I haven’t had any first hand experience but there’s a lot of people with reported trouble with AFM. Just something to...
Congrats on the new truck. There’s plenty of folks using them as they are great platforms with impressive capability out of the box. Sure the aftermarket guys seem to focus on Jeep’s and Toyota’s. But With a little creativity you can outfit your truck and improve it’s capability for far less $$...
Agreed that’s a lot for a 1/2 ton. That’s getting into K2500 territory. And yes that front end came on Suburban’s and Tahoe’s for the Mexico market.

Unless you have a strong need for a pickup, the DuraBurb route is damn near perfect. I think you’ll enjoy the hell of out of it. Keep us posted of the progress.

Check out a gmt800 suburban 2000-2006. Also I find that the GMC version (Yukon xl) is sometimes cheaper than the suburban.

Honestly all of that for $100 seems wrong. I’ve never used 1aauto for anything other than their YouTube videos which are helpful. I’m used to Moog quality parts or oem that seem to last at least 100k or more (~$350). If you need stronger components there’s a number of options but I would be very...
That 02 suburban is a $9-10k rig IF in mint condition. Honestly do not spend over $10k. I bought an 04 2500 Yukon xl 8.1 180k miles for $9k several years ago and it was damn near perfect and came with over 100 receipts from the local gm dealer for all maintenance they performed. They are out...
I might be biased but definitely suburban. Plenty of parts and very reliable. Good solid platforms.
8.1 is a beast but really only need if hauling heavy. They are known to use oil but that’s not a problem per se. the early ones had issues with the crank position sensor but that’s easy to...
What about a Tahoe and forego the 3rd row for cargo space and to keep your boots warm. That should be about same length as Colorado if not shorter. You can always store the 3rd row in the garage until it's needed for additional seats.

I know you said you weren't interested in full size but I downsized from this...
To this...
It can still fit in most standard size garages...
And it can still do work when necessary.
The only thing I miss about my truck is the tailgate. Which is not deal breaker. The benefits of...
