What does “ fits 1/2 ton truck with 4” added base mean” Adding 4 “ to the truck bed height?
If it fits a Tacoma or gladiator isn’t it too narrow for a true 1/2 ton and leave gaps above the wheel wells?

Unless your mechanics gladiator is a dedicated off roader I wouldn’t recommend replacing the front locker with it. It’s too easy to lose control on road in slippery conditions.
That is a great story. The guy was actually a prisoner on a sort of work release/ job skills program and IIRC he was cooking or serving food at that event or one close by. He got an early release because of his heroics!!
