I don't know if I would call a head gasket "tearing down the motor". But from my research, the 200k-225k mileage mark is when they are most prone to let go. Mine is fine right now, but I budgeted for the work for peace of mind. And again, a few I looked at that were twice the price STILL...
I just picked up a 97 Collectors Edition myself. But I did a lot of research and budgeted for the head gasket, tires and paint as major expenses. As soon as I got it i started observing it and making a list of little stuff. It's a decent list, but I'm already whittling away at it as a lot of it...
Thanks for the prompt feedback. Looking for a new set of tires for my FZJ80 and am intrigued by the Coopers but tires are a lot of money haha. I could easily go with the BFG ATs because I know what I am getting but wanted to try something new. It's hard to make the jump. Thanks again.
Hood scoop is from an early 2000s Subaru Impreza STi. If you don't like it, swap in a much less gawdy unit from a WRX and it won't look nearly as crazy.
