Drive down to big sur and look at the Los Padres national forest. Free camping and lots of places to set up camp and do your thing. Beautiful drive and well worth then effort.

Look at the inverter, they often step 120AC down to 12vDC. Just leave the inverter out.

Where exactly are you in town? I have tools but no experience with your van. Do you have a repair manual for your car so that it is easy to diagnose. If it as a standard carb it shouldn't be difficult to rebuild if needed, just need to find a US car that uses it.
