    Add-a-leaf, airbags, or Sumo Springs?

Firm believer in matching springs to sprung weight. Air bags or overload springs like Timbrens would be nice in addition to the correct leaf pack to handle intermittent weight. Just that I prefer the suspension be dialed in. I completely understand that air springs are standard in trucks so...

GMRS, CB, and AM/FM antennas in close proximity?

Was doing some testing with my truck roof antennas. I normally have a Larsen NMO2/70 dual band (for the regular voice radio) and a STI-CO Flexiwhip 1/4λ cut for 2m (for an APRS radio) on the roof. They are very close together at about 20". I calculated 5.5 dB of isolation and am actually...

iPad not receiving GPS like it should

This does appear to be a non-standard (or perhaps really a way that's non-Apple blessed) approach, so it's completely dependent on the app. In this little test between GPS2IP and LE GPS Rec I have running neither requires Location Service to be enabled (nor the cell modem or WiFi for that...

iPad not receiving GPS like it should

In the case of my macOS APRS client it's communicating via Bluetooth. The phone app GPS2IP has options to serve location via socket or push TCP or UDP still (gives option to use the phone's network assigned address or use it's own hotspot address) but the version I downloaded today (3/10/21...

iPad not receiving GPS like it should

GPS2IP may work: https://www.capsicumdreams.com/iphone/gps2ip/ It seems to work serving BLE positions to my MacBook for an APRS client (QTH.app) and the TCP server with QGIS. I don't have an iPad to test but I was able to use an app called "LE GPS Rec" to see the BLE from GPS2IP on another...

    Down Comforters

I have an almost 5 years old Enlightened Equipment Relevation quilt for ultralight packing. These are more direct alternative for a sleeping bag than a comforter but can second the quality as I've been very happy with it. Feathered Friends is another solid company, can't go wrong with them...

Solar Wiring question - gauge and connector type?

Point taken. Voltage drop is power lost. At 100% PWM duty cycle during bulk that's power that could have gone into the battery instead of heating the wire.

Solar Wiring question - gauge and connector type?

Anytime you see a voltage drop you're implicitly measuring the heat of a current through a resistance. It should be considered even if it's contribution is relatively small compared perhaps to the controller in system efficiency. If you allow several volts of drop to occur ahead of the PWM...

    Add-a-leaf, airbags, or Sumo Springs?

Is the storage system always installed? Adding a leaf would be appropriate if the storage has increased your curb weight, e.g. matching the spring rate to the truck's tare.

    12v Fridges going "Mainstream?"

My Engel MT45 consumes about 1A-hr/hr set to 1.5 on the ancient dial. That keeps 40°F about in the middle in ambient summer mountain weather, maybe low 90s daytime, upper 40s night time. It consumes 2.1A running, the Sawafuji is reasonably frugal. Was seeing an average of about 1.65 A-hr/hr...

    Review of the Icom IC-V86

I only ask because I've never come close to that because the most I can achieve is about a 10,000' differential in elevation. Our peaks are 14,000' but the radio line of sight is to stations that sit on the plains at 4,000' to 5,000'. The radio horizon for 10,000' difference in antenna height...

    Review of the Icom IC-V86

Wow, that's incredible on VHF! What was the weather and geography, was the other station also high elevation?

    Tacoma Suspension/FWC Questions

I have FOX 2.5 (non-remote reservoirs) suspension and would recommend OME. It's not that higher end suspension is bad I just find it unnecessary for typical use, kind of a law of diminishing returns. You get a decent step in performance with plain OME (or Ironman, Dobinson, etc.) for not a ton...

Properly Sized Circuit Breakers & Busbar

There's nothing wrong with oversizing wire relative to its fuse (although I'd only suggest documenting it well because trying to figure out a problem in the cabin due to a fuse under the hood might cause someone to pull their hair out). But why not just fuse correctly for a 5A holding (100%)...

    Air chuck/inflators with accurate gauge

Not much to add to the discussion regarding precision vs accuracy (e.g. aim for consistency, I agree) but for calibration if you happen to live in a high rise or at least have access to something tall consider that water column head pressure is about 27.68 inches/psi or 2.307 feet/psi. So you...

    Withdrawn

What a beautiful ride and priced very fairly for what it is. Could you perhaps give basic rider measurements for someone to judge fit? I'm guessing you're probably around 5'10" or so, perhaps an inseam about 32"?

06 Tacoma TRD 6sp DIY Build

FYI, I have that same Bluetooth volt meter and it's got a fair amount of error that cannot be corrected with an offset. It's also not consistent across the range or over temperature. Mine varies from about 0.1 to 0.2 V of error. So don't use it to set any charging profiles, you might be low...

Does the 2007 V6 4Runner have enough power

This is a subjective question, so I don't think you're going to get binary answers. We had a 2005 4Runner and found the power completely sufficient. But my frame of reference at the time was a 4 cylinder 1991 with a stick shift and she was coming from a base model Civic. So it seemed...

4WC-leaky sewing holes on windows seamsealed?

Very typical. Any tent or similar sewn outdoor assembly needs seams sealed. Personally I like the Seam Grip for backpacking tents and Sil-Net (almost a lightweight silicone caulk) for the fairly heavy urethane-coated nylon in my WilderNest but you may want to consider using plain old vinyl...

Which type of coordinates do you use?

That's interesting you got it to work. I suspect it's got to do with Lambert vs Transverse projections (is Tennessee in TM?). Colorado's SPC is LCC and I'd think won't be easy to trick a Garmin into using without significant error.
