    12v Fridges going "Mainstream?"

Got my ancient Engel MT45 in 2007 and the only reason I knew about them from Australian 4WD Monthly and Christo Slee stocked them. It was $800 then and they list for north of $1,000 now, which is about the same price with inflation.

    12v Fridges going "Mainstream?"

They went mainstream when Truckfridge, Costway, Alpicool, Smittybilt, Stakol came on the scene. Engel, Dometic/Waeco, National Luna and Indel-B weren't all that well known beyond forums like this, at least outside of Australia or South Africa. In the end it's just an insulated box with a...

    2021 Ranger Tremor

Man, Ford is channeling my thinking. That list of features is almost point-for-point how I've built my truck, 6-slot aux power, FOX suspension, rear locker, 32" tires, ARB recovery points...

Rust protection inside the frame, idea

Fluid film doesn't dry but it does attract dust to make an oily goop on the surface. That seems fine on my truck since the surface next to the steel is still a waxy oil just with debris in it. The stuff does wash off eventually with any water so Fluid Film isn't a one-and-done anti-corrosion...

    Tree saver straps

Being sold as a tree saver it's possible the rating is 26,000 breaking in basket. No matter, though, rated rigging would be clear whether its a single leg/vertical or other rating. There's also no guarantee of a 5:1 design factor unless it follows the ASME standard. Just searching from the...

Fuel on roof. Fore or aft?

Seems to me a consideration is the weight shifting. So if you have stout mounts, like cages, they won't move then anywhere it makes sense. When I carry jerry cans I put them in a small basket on the roof with ratchet straps. I put them against the front so in a panic stop or hard-stop over...

One big vs. several small batteries

The weakest one dictating the lifespan is the give-and-take of banks of anything, batteries, solar cells, etc. But this is a fundamental problem you can never escape as a battery itself is a bank of cells in series. Failure of one in this bank is generally immediately show stopping. So even...

    HAM radio equipment auction

Lots of classic boat anchors in nice shape. Someone local able to pick stuff up could make out well.

    GMRS question

To add to the list of questions, are you talking about an NMO feed and antenna dedicated to the GMRS or sharing an antenna with the ham radio?

Help! Need suspension advice. '12 Tacoma

You already have coil-overs, don't get too wrapped up about the term. It just means the coil spring is fitted over the shock body. Are you doing anything else modification, like bumpers, sliders, etc.? Do you want any lift or happen to want to avoid lift at all cost? The problem is you need...

One big vs. several small batteries

It's acceptable to make a bank from several batteries and if they're free then sure, nothing wrong with trying. Probably wouldn't set out in a new installation to use large banks of small batteries as opposed to a single of sufficient size if you can. With that large of a bank it will hard to...

Can winter storage damage shocks like my 5160s

FWIW, I have 2.5" non-reservoir FOX. You have to rebuild them to get life (about every 30,000 in what I'd call typical mixed use, e.g. not full on pro racing but not all mall crawling) and the bodies do rust if you don't stay on top of them. My first rebuild was when we still lived near Denver...

Can winter storage damage shocks like my 5160s

Have you called Bilstein and ask? They have a mileage warranty they should honor and unless they say "Must be used continuously" it shouldn't matter. My guess something to do with temperature cycles on the seals or condensation is freezing inside but those are only wild ass guesses.

Should FWC's Swift & Fleet be marketed towards Tacomas?

But then what would I drive? We only have the one truck. What I kick myself over is selling the 1991 rather than keeping it and doing a restore. I don't want to make that mistake again.

Jeep just released a JL with a payload increase of 500lbs

GVWR isn't just measuring suspension capacity. Vehicle dynamics are a factor. Perhaps low placement of that extra 500 lbs keeps center of mass low enough that stability is not changed.

Should FWC's Swift & Fleet be marketed towards Tacomas?

I'm watching what happens with Rangers. Absent a total loss accident my Tacoma is fine. Haven't even broken 100k yet (probably this month), so it should be awhile but I'm weighing whether I should put a gasoline engine, stick shift truck on ice to have an option in the back pocket in a future...

Should FWC's Swift & Fleet be marketed towards Tacomas?

I had a 1996 Ford, which is why I ended up with a 1991 Toyota that got me from 2000 to 2015. Now I have a 2008 Toyota, which is why I'm looking at 2018+ Fords.

Talk me out of a GPSmap 64

How you've described your intention is exactly the way GPS receivers were envisioned to work, that being to augment a larger scale map. They are ideal for knowing your place accurately but are terrible at context and overview. You need both to really navigate and even a tablet can't quite...

Should FWC's Swift & Fleet be marketed towards Tacomas?

That was the settlement between Toyota and Dana. https://www.reuters.com/article/retire-us-dana-idUSTRE70B7KZ20110112 Dana (nor Metalsa now) are not on the hook for newer frames. So it's ironic when they settled the lawsuit Toyota was extending warranties on 2005+ trucks. That $25 million...
