    Disco 3/4 Communication Radio Installs

Put it into my build thread but will highlight here too; the Midland MXT275 is a good unit for our trucks since it has all the key functions on the handset. In my case I back filled it it into the MXT115 mount in the upper glove box, but a virgin install could easily go under a seat mitigating...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

So my anecdotal observation is my black neoprene seats feel better (cooler) than my tan canvas. I have been shocked bc I thought I would cook even with the neoprene in Abu Dhabi but the material does a good job of absorbing the heat without transferring it. The canvas in the D1 does an ok job...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Wet okle; bc exactly as you said-the option to have piping really sets off the interior well. I love these seat covers. I have Kexby (now Knightsbridge) in my D1 and the canvas is nice but for a DD that I want to be both functional and nice the neoprene works really well. Sent from my iPhone...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

None at all. Base is the same, I just left the 115’s base in place and snapped the 275 in it. Other than running an RJ45 extension to replace the RJ12 from the 115 it took about 5 min. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Pre-Order Your MXT275 Today!

Valid point. Not sure it will look right in our Series 1. My other disco already has one...and the upgrading in my LR3 today was simple with the only change the need to use RJ45 to extend the mic vice RJ12. Great little unit for this application. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

Previously I covered the install of a Midland MXT-115 GMRS radio. I installed it in the upper glove box and put an external speaker above that akin to where G4 spec Disco 3’s has theirs. The mic was extended to sit down in the console. This was a good radio but basically a placeholder till the...

    Rear Lockers

For the sake of this discussion I’ll just emphasize a locker can’t fix what tires aren’t suited for-simply put the thing I would make sure I have is good tires for the conditions I wheel in. What we really need is suitable MTs; really only easy to accomplish if is you go 17’s. Sent from my...

    MaxTrax, are they worth it?

To answer the subj question; yes, they are worth it. I don't view it as a question of 'need', though a strong argument could be made for a site that is nominally directed towards long haul overland exploration they have significant utility compared to going through dropping tire pressure with a...

Fumoto F316L FL-Series Engine Oil Drain Valve, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013KW2WTQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ycGqBb713DER0 Fumoto drain valve. Instead of hot oil flying out horizontally as you try to retain the plug now you just flick the lever and the oil drains straight down. Wish I had...

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

A few upgrades/repairs/etc have taken place, some of which worth sharing. Will do a writeup on my take on the lightweight platform when the final pieces of that come together, but for now I'll commit blasphemy. By that I mean I am mixing winch components. Specifically, I wired in a Warn...

My LR3 lightweight storage platform build (UPDATED: actual dimensions on pg 4)

So mine is friction, no quick-lock nor did I then bolt it together for added security. (I did bolt down the other aspects of course, i.e. I drilled and tapped the slats running across the floor that affix it to the L-track, and I bolted down the starboard using the L-track there too) There is...

    Rear Lockers

This gets discussed a great deal on here, with the HD package taking on a seemingly mythical value at times. To your questions: 1) Probably not. If you want to do long haul travel off the beaten path (aka overlanding) vice intense use of the vehicle on extremely rough terrain (offroading...

LR3/LR4 Hitch Options for a Bike Rack

Todd's great people, and I've loved my Rhino hitch. It's not cheap, b/c it isn't a cheap product. Your buy once/cry once mentality is a good one though. Make it a two-fer and get a Snomaster too....

    Which one?

Good on you for knocking out most of a periodic maintenance on the dealer's dime!

    Which one?

Congrats on the purchase! Internet level diagnosis: wheel bearing. Of course returning it to the dealer makes sense-and FWIW, I had to do the same thing with my truck but it was due to water ingress and the electrical issues that can cause. Not the best way to start ownership. If it was/is...

    Sand Rover?

I think saying they are underpowered highlights never having driven a D1 with a 3.9 or 4.0!

    LR3's Recent Utah Trip

Fantastic blog & pics, thank you for sharing. Loved the commentary about the girl with the viral respiratory illness from bad Brazillian cheese amidst waiting for the fickle balls to determine who gets to hike the Wave.
