Register your vehicle in your state as an RV, once that is on your registration apply for the Mexican 10 year "RV" permit. Your good to go for 10 years, let us know if it works out.
Have you checked with Aero Continental? I saw that they are doing a build on a Mercedes truck similar to yours. They have the added benefit of being located in Montana too.
Another option is "camperlogic" they are based in MN and have a build thread in the earthroamer and others etc. sub...
The Tundra would not be able to handle the weight of camper, using a vehicle that much over it's capacity and beyond what the truck is designed to be used for would decrease the reliability, not to mention unsafe.
I am bias so I would pick the dodge with Cummins over the Ford but that is my...
You could check out camperlogic.com they have a build thread in the earthroamer etc just above this one. It is aluminum and looks really well thought out and designed to carry a camper on the back. I am not sure if the typical off the shelf aluminum flat bed like CM or Hillsboro could take the...
Have camper built in Europe, ship to Mexico and obtain 10 year RV permit, overland Mexico and S. America for a few years, then import into USA. Done.:costumed-smiley-007
You will likely be over the GVWR like you said, but I think it's not going to be a "just barely" and more likely over by quite a bit unless you plan to not haul any water or much gear with you other than whats already inside the camper.
Not sure but maybe a helwig sway bar might not be a bad...
Are you trying to get softer springs? Everything is a compromise and with the softer springs you will lose some stability.
The biggest improvement in ride comes from the ability to air down the tires or have some tires with more sidewall. I think you might end up disappointed if you go with...
Correct me if I am wrong but with the 22.5 inch tires they can not be aired down for off road use.
Diplo, after the blow out with the stazworks wheels do you know what wheels that 917 ended up with? Hutchinson?
I am really interested to hear more about these commercial builders that might be getting involved. It seems like they could build a box pretty fast over a couple of days which might end up making the whole thing a little more affordable for those of us that can't afford a GXV or Earthroamer...
Is the bed bolted at the back of the frame ? Or is it a spring mount on all four corners?
I plan to go with some sort of spring mount or pivot mount for my flat bed.
How does it handle going down the road? Was the MPG about what you would expect?
Camper turned out great, I like how the front of the camper doesn't come out far in front of the windshield.
The photo is not working, but I am unclear why you think you would need two inverters? The only place I can see a second inverter coming into play is if you wanted to charge the house batteries from the chassis batteries while driving down the road. The first inverter powers the second...
For fulltime I would go permanent, especially since you mention "daily shower". That also is going to mean a pretty substantial amount of water storage, I would shoot for at least 40 gallons, with 60 being more ideal.
