Per Kai38, if you are looking for soft storage go with dry bags strapped down-that will save a lot of space, weight, and drag. What I did recently was 'issue' out a North Face duffel to myself and each kiddo before a long road trip to WI in our Disco 1-the medium sized duffel is still pretty...
Jim-
Thanks for the feedback so I'll know 'what right looks like' when I hardwire-that may come this fall when temps drop and working on the truck is more tolerable/surviveable. Will be interested to see if installing the rods mitigates the extended mode warning. All told I'm still pretty...
I'm actually overseas but if you're on Facebook ping the Mid-Atlantic Overland Society-that would be the best way to get hooked up with the local wheeling scene.
So I got the truck back right before Eid started, but with other stuff on the agenda hadn't had too much chance to try it out. I doubt I'll really give her much intended use till the weather cools a bit, so a few months, but the initial impression is positive.
-The ride is not as 'soft' as...
Switched over to a mac recently which prompted a consolidation of pictures and the re-discovery of some gems which contributes to my 'stuck' story.
Preparing for the Rover Owner Association of Virginia (ROAV) Mid Atlantic Rally in 2009 on a new venue saw a lot of exploration of the property to...
Seat covers are fantastic and the wife now wants them for the D1. Admittedly I went in half-way and only got the fronts, in retrospect I should have just ordered the full set and the rears are on my list of things to do in the near term-its worth getting all of them in my opinion, I'm quite...
If only I could fit a C7 into a Rover...
While not directly related to the Disco, it was a portion of the WI roadtrip and does have significant offroading content, and I can't resist posting the pics. Awhile back we went to the International Defence (Defense) Exhibition & Conference (IDEX)...
That is a damn good looking truck and only furthering my pang to make a TDi Disco (or wait and bring over a 25yr old rustbucket 3 door...which is a really bad idea that I keep wanting to do).
On the wheels I'd suggest sticking with alloys, Zack's right about the wolf's but I've always found...
That's a really good paint job, not my taste but excellent work and I can see why she likes it!
(I'm ghetto...coyote brown duracoat is my upper end, most of the time it is just krylon rattle can jobs with a laundry bag and some veg)

I'll be most interested in the degradation of ride quality, admittedly this truck doesn't see too much wheeling so the potential loss of articulation isn't too big a concern right now-for the foreseeable future if I want to wheel I'll just use the D1.

Neither. My mechanic prefers the Hitachi over the AMK, but I decided to go ahead and switch to coils and drop the EAS all together. I think if I were in the U.S. and could rebuild the compressor myself the jump would have been less compelling but out here where its our only vehicle I...
Taking the plunge
So the truck got dropped off this am for some maintenance and because this was starting to happen:
It almost certainly is just the compressor needing a rebuild, most likely to replace the dryer since the humidity & heat here is a killer. That said I dwelled on it all for a...
For sure they make life interesting. I truly think that one of the greatest things about these trucks is if you are willing to work on them they have a robustness and resiliency that rarely cripples you on the road. Without a doubt an older Rover is never truly fixed 100%, but she is also...
WI and back (Part 2)
Spending time in N. WI was simply amazing. Given that the truck already was down a parking brake and the VSS I had little intention of doing any wheeling since our timeline for return was short, but the other activities we had planned ended to shots like this:
While I...
To WI, and back...(Part 1)
Good to see you both Doug & Rick, and I look forward to the next visit being a bit longer and some beers indeed-can't say thanks enough for facilitation of the TC on short notice.
So the prep work was done, what was to come next in my mind illustrates why I love...
The light has done well for the amount of rounds thus far-which isn't many, I think when I come home and run it through a few days I may throw an old surefire on to mimic ergonomics and save the Cree bulb in that one.
The brace on the buffer tube is the shockwave version, I'd run the sig first...
The LR3 is superior for your requirements compared to a DII. Others will chime in I'm sure but I view the Dii as a necessary step to get to the D3/LR3 platform (just like the P38 is the necessary bridge from RRC to the current RR). They tend to have problems with their engines, specifically...
