Fantastic video. What a time in overlanding! The best vehicles (70 Series, 80 Series, Discoveries, RRC, etc.), really favorable travel conditions (particularly in Africa) and the great events like Camel Trophy.
I have been traveling for half the year, and am even now still in Africa. The project was just slowed down, along with the updates. Look for more on our LR4 in the next few months.
Narrow width is the key to fitting the largest diameter possible.
The wheel well of the LR4 is designed for full compression with a 255-265 tire. I believe the real advantage with a different tire is to gain diameter in the tire and a reduction in diameter in the wheel, not width of either...
Some wonderful images. Particularly like the Goodwood shots.
This thread should be about your favorite image from the year, not even necessarily your best image of the year. I took 15,000+ images in 2013. The Rhino image is the most meaningful to me - it is my favorite, even if the...
We have some incredible photographers in this community. Lets see your best shot of 2013 (or more if you want, but be sure to call out your favorite).
2013 was an interesting year for me, photographically. So many new and challenging environments to capture, all with unique conditions to...
I just called him Harry. He seemed to like that.
We are working on a top 10 for each continent. Products and people that really made the difference. It will also include stuff that didn't work so well. . .
My plan is to buy a mid-90's turbo diesel sedan and swap the engine over. I will only need to buy a few unique items to the G-wagen for that motor, including the oil pan and motor mounts. OM606, most likely with a mechanical pump conversion is the plan. . .
Buy the Range Rover.
I have an LR4 and a MKIII Range Rover, and for your intended use, the Range Rover is magic. Ours has been trouble free for years, until just over a month ago, when we replaced an airbag. However, this is not to say the cost of ownership is low. A major service will cost...
Another shot of Greg's Land Cruiser, climbing up from the continental coast line (ice shelf) back onto the glacier.
We were also fortunate to spend several days with Walking with the Wounded, an organization that supports wounded soldiers with opportunities for adventure. It was a pleasure to...
They are used as crevasse rescue booms and can also be used to move fuel drums, etc. They extend to nearly twice the length as mounted along the sides, then lock together with a ball coupler. Then a large strap is sent over the roll bar and rack to stabilize the triangle. The ComeUp winch is...
We do not have sponsors, although several companies have generously donated equipment for the trip. The vehicles were purchased and outfitted (not sponsored) by Greg Miller. The trip expenses are also funded by Greg. We all bringing critical talents, connections and experience to the execution...
Still working through about 5,000 images, but here is one of my favorites. Greg's VDJ78 along the coast, massive glacier spilling into a fresh water lake. The Land Cruiser performed better than expected, and I think it looks awesome with the 38s and wide flares.
Edit: Better image quality
We have arrived safe back in Cape Town after a wonderful adventure. As a team, we achieved the South Pole and ultimately crossed Antarctica twice, from the coast north of Novo to the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf. More details soon!
Final packing is complete and we are waiting for final word on the flight. We were bumped 24hrs due to weather, and are scheduled to leave tonight at around 11pm.
Greg and I spent a few hours packing the Hilux to the brim with gear. It was surprising, but the logistics director told us were...
Greg considered wrapping the Hilux, but it looked so good in the red that he stuck with the color. Plus, a bright red truck in the snow looks great and is easier to spot from the air if needed. I like the red, particularly with the grey-scale E7 badging.
