    Used vs. New Overland Vehicle?

Amen to that. Guess it comes down to how many miles people anticipate driving with these trucks. If it's less than 10K a year, which I would imagine it would be in most cases, new doesn't make much sense in my opinion.

    Used vs. New Overland Vehicle?

I would suspect (assume?) that built=less dependable in most cases. All potential problems of a stock vehicle times (enter number here).

    1986 bj70 value

If it's just surface frame rust, then this sounds like a nice find. Link to FS add? He probably wants 10 or more for it, and can probably get it. These are typically way overpriced due to their rare nature. Try 8K.

    Used vs. New Overland Vehicle?

No new trucks for me, either. I own 3 Toyota 4x4's that are all at least 22 yrs old and would drive them anywhere-except some of those off road trails. If the engine's running well, cooling system, front end and brakes are good, just drive it till it drops. But, it won't drop.

    Headroom in a Toyota

3rd gens have piss poor headroom, especially with the sun roof. 2nd gens are better; both 4runner and pickup have adequate headroom for me at 6'5". You may need to try out a few different models on a car lot. Any Land Cruiser from '91 and up would probably work. Older ones have decent...

    Brodozr: '90 4runner

What's the difference in the headlights and grille between '90 and '92? I thought they were all the same.

All-Pro Offroad's Billy the 4Runner! Help us build it!

Very nice! I had one just like that, with a 5 speed. Leaving it stock would be just fine. What expedition would it not be capable of completing in stock form? If you want to sink money into it, maybe an elocker, sliders, ARB bumper, LC Engineering header and exhaust, but I wouldn't lift it or...

    What new Toyota to buy??

If you want to ditch the FJ because of the awful color, by all means do it. You might consider buying a used Tacoma, rather than buying new. Like, something 4-10 yrs old. Trucks, even the "smaller ones" are too damn big these days, IMO.

    Diesel Exhaust and Cancer, FYI

That's considerate, and very unlike the ************** around here who leave their big stinkin diesel trucks idling in front of schools, stores, what have you. It's the larger particulates emitted from diesel that are bad news for our health.

Odd Whistling/Rumble Strip Sound When Driving?

If it's not too much trouble you could remove the mirror to test the theory. That, or stay under 70 mph.:)

    Vehicle Guidance

Like others have said you can hardly go wrong with the Toyota flagship Cruiser. Cummins diesel cruiser would be a noisy stinker. Doubt your wife would dig that. The white one looks OK although buying a lifted truck when you don't really need the extra height is just asking for problems, along...

    Filson Jackets input.

That heavy wool jacket should be warm enough for the amount of time you'll be out. Nome could be warmer than you're expecting though. Check out the forecast for the next couple days-highs in the 30s. Normal? No, but this winter has seen alot of abnormally warm weather all over AK. Chains for...

Show us your Toyota 4runner, tacoma or truck.

Yes same here. Well no, I don't want to buy it. Love that tan color.

    Black rig

I wouldn't be concerned about drug lord appearances. For then, people wouldn't mess with you. The proper concern would be about looking like a rich gringo. Land Cruisers have the rep for being built like tanks from the factory, so no real reason to build one further up for a Central American...

Buying an Old 4Runner or Landcruiser for Noob

Well, this is what one experienced Toyota fanatic on the internet has to say about front end durability. I've read essentially the same thing from another guy who builds Toyotas for offroading. While IFS was retained ( 1995 Tacoma and 4Runner), it too, was also completely redesigned...

Buying an Old 4Runner or Landcruiser for Noob

Look for a 4cylinder 4runner, either 1st or 2nd generation, in good condition for a reasonable price. Newer models will be more expensive, don't have the sex appeal (attractive body styling) of the older ones and have inferior suspensions. Do you care if they go faster? I didn't think so...

    Saying Hello and some questions

LOL. A V-8 is OK, but no more gas sucking tires. Better keep it filled up, so she doesn't have to.

Thinking about getting a LC or LX470 or maybe the LR3

You responded to my query about choosing the LC over the 4Runner due to it's larger size. I don't believe the LR3 is any bigger than a 4runner. It actually may be smaller. One member mentioned that the Cruiser is much bigger than the LR3, making it not as nice for the wife to drive. Also...

    Help choosing a Nissan

Subaru probably has as much room inside as the Xterra does. Lots of both around here, all models driven by men and women alike.:) Both seem like pretty good rigs. Subaru would be generally cheaper to maintain. For one thing, consider the cost of replacing tires. You could probably get more rig...
