Extra fuel questions: RotoPax OK to store flat? Other fuel ideas?

On my recent DVNP trip I had some "issues" with the 3G 4runner's lack of fuel capacity (18.5 gallons in a vehicle that gets ~13 MPG off road.) My way to deal with this was the same way I did it with my Taco, which was a plastic 5 gallon "blitz" can. Problem, of course, is that in the 4runner...

    Yakima Lock help needed!

I'm in the process of upgrading my storage capability, and since I had an old Yakima rack (purchased in 1992 when I had my 1990 Mitsubishi Montero) I figured I'd try to re-use as much of the old rack as possible. Of course, the Monty had gutters, while my 4runner does not, and so my gutter...

    Another radio thread: 6m? 10M?

Does anybody use 6m anymore? Just curious. I know in the military (way, way back in the 80's) we used to use radios in this range (~50mhz or so.) I know 50mhz is at the very low end of the VHF spectrum, does that mean it's more likely to "skip" than a higher frequency would? I guess it...

    HAM licensing process (VECs help!)

For the VECs or former VECs out there: Can someone walk me through the process? I'm a little confused. Before you ask, yes, I've read: 1. The HAM radio FAQ on this page 2. The ARRL web site. 3. The FCC web site. Also, FYI I had a HAM license about 18 years ago (KB0LOG)...

    Power for pillar mounted gauge?

Already posted on T4R.org, got not response, so I thought I'd try it here. Okay, I got my outside temp gauge and single-pod pillar mount (from http://www.egauges.com) So I need to install it (probably this weekend.) So I need to find two things: A power source and a way to tap into the...

Dangit, ExPo, you've convinced me! Getting my HAM license back...

Gotta thank you ExPo guys, if it wasn't for you my wallet would be clogged full of money and it would probably give me back problems. :sombrero::sombrero::sombrero: Okay, seriously, after reading through the HAM vs GMRS thread I started I've come around to the fact that if I want decent comms...

GMRS as an alternative to CB or 2m?

After reading through and commenting on this thread: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/62837-Who-s-still-running-both-a-CB-and-HAM I did a little online researching. Here's my question for the group: For US-based travel only (and I say this because I don't know about the...
