Traveling the trails around here there is a lot of blowdown every spring. With a hand saw, you would spend half your day clearing the trail instead of getting somewhere. Not everyone goes to the same sort of places you travel to....
Backish on topic....
Stihl MS260. Their smallest Pro model, with a 16" bar. God it is nice to use a good chainsaw... Axe as well. You need to split wood for fire use.
What I am interested in is whether or not it is using a thermostat and is controlling the temperature. If you have a max/min thermometer, that would be the best.
Yes, #1 to the bearing.
If you look in your workshop manual....the is a section called "General Fitting Instructions". In that section it covers things like how seals are fitted.
The open part of the seal should always face the oil or grease (the liquid being sealed. For the hub seal the open part is to the hub, facing the bearing.
Their website now allows you to sign up for sale notifications on specific items. If there is anything you may want in the future, set up one and they send an email before it goes on sale...
Based on my experience with propane fridges, they should never be used in a closed space. When you get to camp, put them outside.
It sounds like it is a thermostat which is good and a must , IMO. It would be good if you could do some more testing to make sure it is controlling to a set...
Oil filter? Just a quality PH-8A equivalent. That should not affect oil life as the main filters do not capture soot. A secondary filter would allow longer intervals as soot is the limit. I do not drive mine anywhere near enough to need long intervals.
I do have a 2 micron fuel filter...
BS. I have one. It does not use oil. It does not leak oil. The oil analysis is as good as any modern engine, running synthetic 5W-40. 16000 km changes are conservative based on this analysis.
Injector nozzles are easy to find and replace. You do not need the whole injector.
It is not an old motor. I tis quite a modern diesel design.
All XW40 is the same weight when running. The first number is only the viscosity when cold.
Oil in the intercooler is from the PCV system.
If you really care about proper oil change intervals, get an oil analysis. They are cheap. You will know how well the oil is performing and if there are any problems with the engine.
The hardest part is that the exhaust is in the way and the stock pipe cannot be removed. If it is LHD, it is much harder than RHD... You can get the starter up and out by disconnecting the downpipe and moving it as far as possible out of the way.
I recent started the beginning of a wheel database here: http://members.shaw.ca/red90/roverwheels.html If anyone has a wheel they can measure, send my the numbers and I'll stick it up.
I think the real reason to go this way is cost.... You can buy a brand new complete 350 crate engine for $2000.
$4115, 330 hp, fully dressed, brand new, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-19210008/
Yes, TeriAnn, obviously a Dana 60 center is much stronger than a Toy center. A Toy center is probably 30% stronger than a Rover. Yes people break Toy center. Yes people break Dana 60s. Yes people break Rockwells.
The other big plus of the Toy center is that the factory lockers are quite low...
