Great discussion. A wise man once said that "Freedom is not the right to piss off your neighbors."
Regarding living procedures, it is good to keep in mind that the population on this planet has grown by over 30% in the last 20 years. 6 Billion people is now 8. If you like data and graphs, the...
We built out a new sprinter a couple years ago with swivel seats and 1/4' insulated window covers. We camped in weather in the low 20's and It wasn't T-shirt temp inside. It was more functional with the swivel seats and worth the trade off to hang out inside with a down jacket and slippers.
I...
I've been skeptical of pop ups in the NW. 9 months of the year they will be pretty wet with dew and rain. Ideally after use, they should be parked in a dry space with the tops up and good airflow to prevent mold and mildew. A good hard shell can be left outside more easily with an electric...
Are you planning to do several multi week trips a year? The question I ask is at what point is it worth the sweat, time and money to build such a beast to maintain family comfort versus renting a vacation house a few times a year? Vehicle based exploration could be done with far less when...
The 550/5500 market is less likely to have slightly used vehicles available. They don't sell many of these and most are purchased by construction companies and utility companies. They don't tend to get coughed up until they are 10 years old so. I personally would stay away from builds on these...
The used vehicle market was up 30-40% at on point due to demand. No new cars and trucks available. It's hard to say what will happen with the used truck market moving forward when more new vehicles become available. There will still be a hole in the supply from a couple / few years where new...

I purchased 2 of these and built out one as a...
That is a good solution.
If I was doing it, depending on the thickness of the base material, I'd consider drilling and tapping the holes for stronger stainless machine screws with loctite. I'd be very careful not to break the other screws when backing them out.
Sheet metal screws are tricky...
In the NW our weather alternates between freezing an thawing all winter. It is really nice to fill the tank for non freeze trips and then open a low point valve after. Dump holding tanks of course and pour a little RV antifreeze in the P traps. Quick and easy. Having to blow out lines and hope...
It would be interesting to build an inexpensive plywood test unit, collect some data and then cut it down to form the wedge shape and see what the difference is.
The internets say pick up trucks drag coefficient is 0.5-0.65 where as cars are 0.3 and a euro style van is around 0.4. The graph above relates drag coefficient to fuel economy. It looks to me like drag coefficient is a fairly small factor in the calculation for fuel economy. The cross sectional...
From this graph it looks like the coefficient of drag for the wedge portion might be around .3

From your sketch I don't think it makes a huge difference efficiency wise. The wedge portion is not a large contributor to the overall shape and the cross sectional area is the same with or without the wedge. The wedge does offer better aesthetics in my opinion.
Here is some good basic info on...
