Look into Bedrock Bags. Andrew (pick above) is one of our ExPo tribe and makes killer bags. That's all I use, and I've tried them all. www.bedrockbags.com
And as a sidebar....I really dig this Rocky Mt Element BC Edition. Took a few rides to get into it, but she's sweet.
Thanks a bunch, Bill. It was hard to come up with a good yarn as that trip was just about driving aimlessly in lavish rolling digs. Thank you, again. I enjoyed that one as well.
There are a lot of great filters out there. The new standard is the MSR Guardian, but it's big bucks. Read my review HERE.
The little brother of the Guardian is the MiniWorks which has been around for ages, and is a great filter for the southwest where water turbidity is a major issue. If you...
Over the years our Overland International editorial team has compiled our own notes on what makes a good travel yarn. I put those notes to work last year to pen this piece on travel writing. http://expeditionportal.com/travel-writer-how-to-share-your-story-with-the-world/
We hope it is helpful...
Hahaha. Hmmm...maybe I should say a few weeks. Seriously though, not much discussion is paid to how tires perform over their lifespan. Some tires, like Nevagals, seem to be good to the bitter end, but aren't ever great, even at the start. Schwalbe Racing Ralphs go from super awesome to instantly...
In the late 80s and early 90s I would have said, hell yes. They had the Ti Zaskar which was a killer rig. In the mid 90s I would have said, mmmmmmaybe. Their thermoplastic bikes were interesting. In the late 90s I would have said, run far, far, far away with their funky rear suspension pivot. In...
It is pretty sweet, but don't forget a second set of hoops, once shod with rubber and fitted with a cassette, will easily set you back $750. Cheaper than a second bike, for sure, but a lot of cabbage for a wee bit of variance in footprint.
Kenda's small knob tires are great...for about a week. I loved the Small Block 8 for tacky hardpack racing (rare), but liked the Slant 6 better for general riding. Unfortunately, they fall in that category of tire that's really only good for about the first 15% of the tire life. After that...not...
I agree with you Jay with the exception of the Beargrease. Judging by the times I record on the local trails that I've ridden for over a decade now, I'm as swift on my Beargrease (with carbon wheels) as I am on anything else, which baffles me. Granted, this on trails that are relatively buff and...
Prescott's trail network has become so vast, and grows so rapidly, I have not ridden all of it. Which is insane considering I have logged more than 80,000 miles here.
The Camelbak cleaning tabs work well, but they are essentially just denture cleaner tabs with no flavoring agents. It is wise to clean your reservoir even if all you use is water in it. They can get funky over time.
I've switched to Hydropak reservoirs as they're the easiest to clean. They can...
There are just so many bikes out there and so many of them are truly amazing. It's just about matching the right bike with how and where you like to ride.
I'm wrapping up a year-long rack review. My lead rack thus far is the 1Up USA Quick Rack. BTW, a few years ago a friend was on a road trip in Colorado with two bikes on the front of his Van and got a $200 ticket for having his lights and indicators obstructed. He thought it was a one-off bummer...
