    My KLR

That is about right...I read the manual on my '07...and it looked like hours of work with all Clymer tells you to remove. I checked YouTube and there is a KLR vid showing basically just remove the shock from the bottom...and it was just that easy. I went with the Progressive Suspension 465...

Willman's Bantam BT3-C Expedition Trailer Buildup

Just thanks!!! Willman...thanks for a great thread! I'm a new Bantam owner and have seen quite a few neat ideas here.

    Cables vs. Chains

A bit of a diffrent application...but I use coiled cable as the "safety chain" between our jeep and our RV. They store well and the coiling action keeps tension on the cable so they stay "up" nice and tight...that aspect might be a good thing off road. As noted...they are quieter.

New trailer owner questions - Bantam 1946 trailer find (and buy).

Well today I invested some time/effort toward my new trailer and targeted two areas: First, getting ready for a repainting. In light of the military background of this type of trailer...I "drafted" my 12yo son got him rigged with a full face respirator (which he thought was neat as hell) and a...

New trailer owner questions - Bantam 1946 trailer find (and buy).

Thanks Robert for all the information! I will be checking those sites you mentioned, to date I've spent most of my time on the Bantam3c site...mainly to confirm what I had. DMV went well...got my new title & VA. permanent trailer tag (they offer one the same size as a motorcycle tag - good...

New trailer owner questions - Bantam 1946 trailer find (and buy).

A quick photo...and today DMV! Here is a quick photo. After work heading for the dreaded trip to DMV for tag and new title...thank goodness this came with a title from the PO! Found I had one spare boat trailer LED light in my parts box that fits the existing mounting holes "good enough". I...

New trailer owner questions - Bantam 1946 trailer find (and buy).

New to this section of Expo...mainly because until today I did not have a trailer. I stumbled across a oddly worded listing on Craigslist for an "old army trailer" earlier this week...and well...now I have one. Got it home and cleaned it up a bit. Title and name plate indicate a Bantam...

Building a 2008 Kawasaki KLR650 for Overland Travel!

I think you will like the Kendas...I find them a great deal $ wise, long wearing, and easy to mount. On the pavement I do similar pressures...handling is very good. Off road I drop down to about 20/20 and adjust - or + as needed. Off road...in any form of mud or sand...you will appreciate...

Kawasaki 250 dual sport as first (and only) bike

Consider XT225 Yamaha also.... similar capability...has 6 speed transmission. There is quite a selection of 250'ish cc dual sport machines available...and often quite a selection available on e-bay/craigslist. If you visit any of the "adventure rider" type forums...there are many tails of...

    New bike advice

Disclosure first: I have a '07 KLR. "Back when" I was shopping I focused on 650cc thumpers for: simplicity, moderate weight, ability to hold highway speeds when loaded, aftermarket support for the essentials (luggage, engine protection plates/bars). Price was not a big issue for me. Some...

    '09 Suzuki DL650 project bike

I am about to get the Giant Loop rig for my KLR...I think for the same reasons. It seems the best overall mix of mounting location and ease of use...plus no additional racks needed. Seems very well made and thought out. Never heard of any issues with them and almost never come up for sale...

    5.11 pants...knee pocket insulation tip

Yesterday we had a break in our weather, no ice/snow on the roads so I thought I would ride the KLR into work...still a bit of a chill in the am with temps of 22-25F in the am but 45+F for the ride home. This got me thinking about my poor old knees hanging out in the wind (my boots, jacket...

    Damn You NAPA

That's funny...I get that too, not so much on the Jeep Wrangler or the Chev P/U 4x4...but every time I need a part for our BlueBird RV bus. If it ain't in the computer - it does not compute! Often I have to beg to let me look through the stock in the back (relays, solenoids, etc.) and then I...

    shell / cap build out

Just FYI...I have an aluminum cap on my truck. I like the cap approach as I can easily remove it for hauling bulk materials, or motorcycle, junk. For several years had no insulation...in hot was hot...in cold was cold (and having ice/condensation drip on you is no fun), and somewhat noisy...

    S&W Model 27 .357

FYI of what I am talking about, if not for you, perhaps others: ...an easy to carry flexible rig, open or semi concealed. I would suggest a covered trigger and simple yet positive action (to secure and release) retention strap: http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.asp?ProductID=3185&GunID=144

    S&W Model 27 .357

Here are just some personal opinions, 1: based on carrying a handgun almost every day for 27 years in LE, to include a Mod #27 S&W; staying within the parameters of the gun you want; and with the note that you need to follow your local laws and such: Several posters have mentioned if your...

Swiss Mil. Surplus 20Ltr Water Storage Bag

When camping out of the truck/car...always used hard plastic water storage cans, either the blue round ones with the white spigot or US military cans. Recently for canoe camping where we needed a soft bag type that also was easy to tie in...so...I bought off of ebay a pair of water bags...

    Awesome find on EBAY!

I used to be the DOD surplus property acquisition person for a PD. You really see some neat, weird and expensive stuff at the big DRMO depots. I used to love getting the DOD shipping cases...military seemed always to buy a neat toy AND would buy the high priced box for it...the PD would buy...

    Vehicle Rod Rack

The simplest rod holder I ever came up with is on my truck now... Sections of 1" nylon webbing looped in about a 3" loop and secured. A series of 3 aligned loops front to rear hold the end of rod, middle of rod, and final loop goes over the handle. In my use they are double loops (visualize two...

Too hot in KS for RTT camping...

2x the hammock. Have a Hennessy Hammock and I was floored by how much cooler it is than any tent. The 360 degree air contact makes a big difference compared to a tent. Typically use a fleece bag inside even in summer. Very comfortable. Design has bug screen and rainfly. It is the best...
