Thoughts on 2013 Unimog... enroute to US perhaps?

Referenced or not, Charlie knows most everything there is to know about U500s, so if he thinks that's the situation, it undoubtedly is. And that U500 approach makes a lot more sense than any effort to somehow get a 1988 or older OM352 EPA and CARB compliant.

Thoughts on 2013 Unimog... enroute to US perhaps?

Oh, don't get me started on that one. His is actually a U1300, a nice enough truck, but designed in the mid-70s and thus old-fashioned compared to the U500. You can find them in the US for $30K or so; his cost a quarter-million mostly by being imported legally, which meant that a lot of the...

Olympian RV Camper Trailer Wave 3

Yeah, they don't like dust, and it will shorten the life of the catalyst pad. That said, though, the Wave 3, in common with the whole series, has a vinyl cover that you can/should buy to cover the heater when not in use in order to prolong its life. They suggest you always use this cover, even...

Thoughts on 2013 Unimog... enroute to US perhaps?

The adoption of the Euro VI standards will make current European and US trucks match up better. Most European heavy trucks will be using the same emission reduction techniques (e.g., DPF, EGR) and manufacturers probably would not find meeting the EPA requirements nearly as difficult as before...

    8TH NW SPRINTERFEST--Sat. 4/13/13; Tualatin, OR (w/ 4WD Sprinters for Test Drives)

None by my hand, but John posted this one: that shows about 40% of the venue, and he's said that he'll post more here: http://sprinter-source.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25136 in a couple of days. I'll keep my eyes on that thread. By the way, John's best estimate is 50 Sprinters of all...

    8TH NW SPRINTERFEST--Sat. 4/13/13; Tualatin, OR (w/ 4WD Sprinters for Test Drives)

BIG turnout, with lots of trucks with lots of variety. There were also a lot of people contemplating getting a Sprinter for conversion, and it's the very best place to wander around and get ideas. Some brought professional conversions costing six figures and some trucks have a couple hundred...

    8TH NW SPRINTERFEST--Sat. 4/13/13; Tualatin, OR (w/ 4WD Sprinters for Test Drives)

Darn fine question, Fred. Given the advantages in fuel economy and interior height of a Sprinter, it's surprising there's not more activity. It may be one of those things that everyone covets it when it's Unobtainium, but once you can write a check and have it, putting money where mouth is, so...

    8TH NW SPRINTERFEST--Sat. 4/13/13; Tualatin, OR (w/ 4WD Sprinters for Test Drives)

Bump 'er up 'cuz tomorrow is the day. If you're nearby and have any interest in the Sprinter as an overlander, I suggest you stop by. Free is a very good price for all you can learn.

2007 Fuso Expedition Vehicle - Hackney Fuso

My congratulations as well. It seems like you did a good job of evaluating different options so you were ready to move when this unique opportunity came along. Back in the day, Doug Hackney's reports of his build and subsequent travels were one of main attractions of the Portal for many of us.

It's Baaack! And Gone Again! Highly-Capable 416-Based Unimog Expedition Motorhome

That's was great, Trev. Thanks for posting it; it sure brought back memories. (The red and white polka dots on the air inlet show a certain sense of whimsy, don't they?)

***SOLD*** 2005 Unimog U500 - Very well equipped, low miles, very clean!

Can anyone easily comment on what's involved in derating this truck to 26K pound GVWR so as to avoid the need for a CDL?

    SOLD!! 2008 Jeep Rubicon 4-Door

My Oregon colleague John is probably off traveling somewhere, so I better take responsibility for giving this thread a bump. FWIW, I've seen the truck several times, and it strikes me as having a very well-chosen set of mods. In particular, the whole RTT setup thing is handled very well with...

    Overcamp vs Columbus

Nothing faster to setup or put down than the Columbus. I'd count that as the deciding factor. Or just sleep in the Samurai. (I'm mostly kidding, of course, but I built interior sleeping once, and it worked, sort of. Details here...

That'd be pretty cool. It's worth a try. We could be the world's smallest rally. :sombrero:

    8TH NW SPRINTERFEST--Sat. 4/13/13; Tualatin, OR (w/ 4WD Sprinters for Test Drives)

Duh. You just can't get good help these days. :( Looks like overtyping last year's post isn't a brilliant approach unless you're willing to proofread the result. Thanks for the heads-up; I fixed it.

    EarthRoamer XV-JP "Northwest Edition"

FWIW, the XV-JP will be sort of "on display" at the Northwest SprinterFest on April 13 in Tualatin, Oregon. That's because Upscale Automotive, which sponsors NWSF, did much of the important fabrication work on the truck and I'll be attending so people can see their work. If you're in the area...

    8TH NW SPRINTERFEST--Sat. 4/13/13; Tualatin, OR (w/ 4WD Sprinters for Test Drives)

Here's the latest information from the Sprinterfest sponsors. Also, FWIW, because they did much of the important fabrication on my XV-JP, I'll have the Jeep on display there to show off their work.
