GMRS Antenna Wire Length and Position Question

Interesting range of responses. There is a helpful thread discussing this, with some links to FAQ’s from Firestik and other sources. The consensus is that Jim Biram is correct. Thanks guys!

GMRS Antenna Wire Length and Position Question

I vaguely remember from my HAM training a decade or so ago that the antenna CABLE length was a very specific thing, based on frequency and so forth. If I recall, a 2M HAM set up used an 18 foot long cable to connect to the antenna. I recently purchased and installed a Midland MXT115 GMRS mobile...

    Peak Design Everyday Messenger V1 - 15L

Wow, I don't need one, but that is a beautiful item. Are the buckles made from milled stainless steel?

Project WK - My new SRV (Sanity Reset Vehicle)

Phase 2 for the rear cargo area is complete! I cut the front half lid to have a 60/40 split, and cut in piano hinges and then installed cam latches to keep the cargo lids secure. Works pretty good!

    Need Latch Suggestion/Solution

@Verkstad - I thought seriously about something like that. And found some similar rubber T-handles for ice coolers, but I didn't want any elastic movement, so I opted not to go that route. @alia176 had the right idea, and that would have been easier than I what I did, but I did solve it today...

    Need Latch Suggestion/Solution

I recently built a cargo platform in my Jeep WK. Now I am modifying it a bit to allow access under the floor area where the second row seating was. I installed a piano hinge at the back, and am looking for a way to latch the front down securely enough to allow me to safely tie down something...

Looking for Good, Entry Level Knife Sharpening Kit Recommendations

Yes, that was my conclusion as well. Thanks for bringing this thread back alive, as I had forgotten to update it. I bought the Ken Onion Worksharp electric sharpener, and its pretty fantastic. I've sharpened everything in my house, garage, and neighbors house too. It's not great on an axe...

WK2 backseat delete - looking for platform ideas

Finally finished my rear platform. Turned out okay, pretty basic. I have some plans to modify it further, but this is the starting point: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/project-wk-my-new-srv-sanity-reset-vehicle.224064/post-2978901

Project WK - My new SRV (Sanity Reset Vehicle)

Here are some more details on the rear cargo tray/platform I built. Call this Phase 1. Phase 2 will modify the front portion for underfloor access and some other improvements. This forward section is removable with 6 bolts (using the seat bolt and seat retention bolt holes). The rear...

Project WK - My new SRV (Sanity Reset Vehicle)

Some updates are in order. 1. I scored a set of used AEV Pintler wheels. These have more offset than the JL wheels I was running. Enough so that I was able to remove the spacers in the rear, but I still need spacers in the front. I have 1.5" spacers, but would like to drop down to 1". but for...

Jeep Gladiator Build Thread - 18 months around Australia with The Road Chose Me

@Dan Grec - what is the functional purpose of the light bar down so low integrated in your bumper? Does it throw very far forward?

LR3: Routing wires & relay placement

Assuming your auxiliary battery tray is still available, put your relays there (drivers side above the wheel well). To get inside the cab, there is a spare grommet under the primary wiring harness on the drivers side of the engine bay where it enters through the firewall, but it’s a real PIA to...

    LR3 yellow brake light

Brake pad wear sensor is likely culprit. There are two of them (one front, one rear). They are a plug and play kind of repair, pretty easy to do and not very expensive. Atlantic British sells them. RockAuto probably does too. Also, Brake switches are known to be a sensitive item for LR3's...

Gaia GPS Premium - is it worth upgrading?

One feature that might be worth paying for is access to the Motor Vehicle Use Maps the various Natioanal Forests have created. These are terrible maps for navigating, but useful to know if its a legal trail or not. These seem be included with the paid (Premium) version only.

Gaia GPS Premium - is it worth upgrading?

I have Gaia GPS on my iPhone, and generally like it and use it as my go to GPS app for way pointing and trail marking. I have the free version, and it's worked okay for me over the past few years, but I note that I didn't get out a whole lot the past few years. I now have a better adventure...

LR3 - Control Arm and Bushing Replacement

Tyler, there were threads on the D3.UK forum a while back about people doing that. Never looked easy and the concensus was that control arm replacement was the way to go. However, it can be done and was accomplished by a few people. Getting the bushings out involves a making a mess and a...
