24-hour sand driving record in a Discovery 5

Yes, I agree there are a few out there. That's the problem. Locally, I'm connected to every forum, FB group, club, etc related to Land Rover and/or off-road interests. There's zero activity with anything newer than 2004, and barely anything before that as people jump ship for better, newer...

lol, have you seen the Blazer? You're right, trademark owners can do whatever they want, same as you and I, but that doesn't make it reasonable or honest. Says Ford, must be a Ford.

    Discovery 2 Vs GX470

I’m not getting drug down into writing a novel on this. My LR3 is one data point and ultimately doesn’t matter. All I will say is it was well maintained and when it did fail on numerous occasions it presented no prior signs. I offered a brief list of potential LR3 issues which you claimed were...

    Drug Dealer?

The AB ad was a joke taking the piss out of airbags. The kit’s existence highlights the failure and frustrations of air suspension. Where there’s a solution, there’s a problem. Without getting into why, I’d never run a coil conversion setup. Sounds like you’re putting a lot of thought into...

24-hour sand driving record in a Discovery 5

Good point. Everywhere you look, all the "guys out riding, racing, training and getting after it" are doing it in every platform but LR's. What does that tell you?

    Drug Dealer?

Keep drinking the cool-aid buddy. No honest and experienced person is going to make the case that air-bags or the air suspension components that they depend on, are as reliable and last as long as coils. It's pure fantasy and now you're on this irrelevant tangent about spring sag. "Failure" is...

    Discovery 2 Vs GX470

It's true, the 4.4 is relatively reliable, but you failed to mention the rest of the vehicle. Lackluster interior quality, extremely heavy, water pump failure, T-case ECU failures, water ingress related electronics issues, tail-light bulb transmission faults, various types of air-suspension...

    Discovery 2 Vs GX470

The Disco2 is more likely to leave you walking back to civilization or reaching help in some way. It's also more likely to require more investment in maintenance. If you're prepared for that and you must have the D2's character, then go for it. If not, I'd go for the GX or something else.

24-hour sand driving record in a Discovery 5

You're off on all sorts of tangents buddy, fighting imaginary battles. 4 or 5 guys and Lucky8. lol, does that include the one I mentioned? You must be digging deep for those few, and if you have to dig that far, there might be a problem. Lucky8 is a vendor investing in a new and uncertain...

24-hour sand driving record in a Discovery 5

The brand new vehicles that I mentioned are phonograph technology? Ok. You've missed the point entirely. Where's the response to this article? To the D5? To all LR's previous sponsored stunts (like driving it up flights of stairs)? Crickets... No one cares. They see right through it. They...

    Drug Dealer?

Don't know about you, but I've never seen a coil spring break. This is just the latest data-point in a long string of air-based suspension failures I've witnessed and experienced. Never again. lol

Diesel engine options for classic Range Rover

lol. It's not every man that embarks on an engine swap by buying one sample of each option. Which engine are you 90% done swapping? It seems, you started on the 300 path, then the 617, but now you say you have a Mercedes diesel "just in case".

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

Funny, the competition produce vehicles that accomplish all the above, spanking LR in every market they once dominated. Are they going to claw any of it back? Not a chance. Too little, too late.

24-hour sand driving record in a Discovery 5

LR has always produced vehicles that can take you anywhere when the planets and stars are aligned. However, they now also manage to make the experience as uninspiring as possible. The majority of the kind of people that live and work the outdoors look at this, and its sister the luxury...

Diesel engine options for classic Range Rover

200/300Tdi with a VGT/Intercooler upgrade meets your stated requirements, and is far more simple and affordable than other options.

Time to ditch vehicles that use airbags as primary suspension components for remote travel.

    INEOS Grenadier

Cueless Pilat is going to blow a gasket when he sees that. Glad to see their engineers understand the market, unlike dandy McGovern and co.

    OVERLAND Journal Payload podcast

Didn't listen. Did they discourage everyone from bolting on your entire payload-worth of unnecessary overland bling? The kind this website advertises..

What would you replace your LR3/4 with ?

Big different between the LR3's fully boxed and welded control arms and the Jeep's flimsy U-channel. Replaced my LR3 with an F150. 6-speed ZF, aluminum body, rear-locker, 700lbs lighter, more reliable, more power, more storage, more towing and payload. I'd have considered waiting for the new...
