    RTT why so much $$$$

This particular Maggiolina has been all over and is one of the oldest in the NW. It has been rebuilt 3 times by me (Ice dam broke roof - filled inside with rot/mold; Ice dam#2 - inside frozed solid, #3 was a tree). It is 10-12 years old now and still going strong. The cost is expensive, but the...

    It's done! 3.0-liter turbo-diesel FJ60 from TLC

Interesting, as I have the tapered bearings in my TC. Heavier oil (90-120w) and some sound deadner on top of the TC/floor of the 60 have helped, but they are still loud - they compete with the tires and the exhaust at this point.

    It's done! 3.0-liter turbo-diesel FJ60 from TLC

I don't think you'll need the Marks gears. I'm on 35's, 4.11 and Marks 1.08 ratio gears. I'm 11% over on the speedometer with this combination. The Marks Gears -TC will more than likely be coming out of my rig because they are noisy. They are awsome for crawling but noisy on the highway...

Low garage, no "structure" and RTT

I've had lots of experience with this issue. I know what not to do: Use a bobcat & chain - eventually you'll scratch your roof at a minimum; three friends - akward lifting at that height/angle; leave it out - ice dams break the roof. I've also used a wood structure built off the corner of the...

Building Camp Kitchen for Production - Need Feedback!!

All I know is: Build it right the first time. I'm still using the kitchen box my dad built in roughly 1968-70; the only problem is that it is now living on top of storage drawers in a lifted landcruiser and not on the floor of a 60's station wagon - the cutting board is somewhere near chest...

Countdown to diesel FJ60 - a thing of beauty

1984 FJ60 - Overland Journal official Conservation Project Vehicle - OME, long-range aux. fuel tank, stock engine to be converted to diesel . . . lots of stuff planned. The only thing missing is that it isn't blue - if I remember correctly. McGrew Trail ride just had 3-diesel 60's, all blue all...

Who has the highest mounted RTT??

My gutters sit at 73" with the top of the Maggiolina at 90". Sprung under, OME, 35's. With the Alcan suspension (at least for the first week - I was 4" higher). I have a large Maggiolina - Grand tour or whatever it is called now. It has been through a lot over the past 10 years. A) ARB...

What do you consider to be the best cookware kit?

I guess I'm a throw back. I'm still using the nestling alum. pots my parents used 40+ years ago backpacking. The (then) fancy teflon frypan is still used but it sticks now adays. They all fit together in the wood kitchen box, built in 1970. Silverware is WWII surplus german steel that holds an...

    Diesel Conversion kit thoughts....

The engine transplant is a toss up. Having done a 60 - HZ transplant & having been a TLC costumer, it's a toss up. TLC does their job very well -when hire them, they do it properly - the first time in my experience. 1HZ transplant: Used engine, imported $4500 including H55 & turbo. Engine #2...

What is everyone using for bedding in their RTTs?

Heated Mattress pad -dual control inside the Mattress cover. Flannel Sheets, Inexpensive Walmart down alternative comforter - just in case things get damp. Thank you Desertdude/girl for the heated mattress pad idea, yes it is quite nice to have a warm bed & the battery isolator means the truck...

    Wiring Fuse panel/circuit breaker?

I'm almost finished up with a similar wiring of my HZ60. Waytek is an excellent source for parts. Source a local wire supply & cable ends - you'll be making multiple trips. I added a starter battery under the hood and cleaned up the dual battery wiring from the rear QP (2 years wired in...

    RTT's and Rain

Interesting to read about the 303 products. I'll definately be cleaning and treating. I've used 3M & Silicone spray in the past. OOPS, I get no beading of water anymore - but what do you expect with what I've put the tent through. I've spent many nights in sideways rain and never gotten wet...

    RTT's and Rain

Rich, Hello from your first customer in the NW :) The Maggiolina is still going, although it has seen some very hard use over the past 7+ years. Good to read about the innovations. I'm about to bite the bullet and get a second tent. Bob Bancroft Bend, OR (Medford now adays)
