Here's my 1988 4Runner. This is the only photo of it I can find right now so please excuse our dorky 'poses' in front of it. This was about 8 years ago... and the first time I visited the in-laws. They must have been impressed by the 3" body lift, 63" chevies, welded 4.10s, and 35" MTRs. The...
Good to know, guys!
The tire diameter measures out just short of 32". I'll definitely keep my eyes open for some 4.88s now. Thanks blakeape and NorthernWoodsman.
Right now it's has 4.10s but I'll most likely be swapping to some 4.56s before heading out. I can't afford to regear
to 4.88s so I'm going with the lowest stock gears available. I've put about 180km on the truck and used a 1/4 tank of fuel so far... mileage numbers will come eventually!
Soon Luis, soon! Our master bedroom (CVT Mt. Bachelor) is currently being shipped so that should be here sooner rather than later!
Now that the truck and all of the accessories are in the same place I'll be able to lay them out and see what actually works where (I've spend enough time...
On the road
So here we go, after 3 or 4 weekends of work on the truck it's ready to be driven.
I flew into Powell River on Sunday morning and we had the old engine out and the new 22RE installed and running by Monday afternoon. Tuesday was spent tidying up some minor issues (like installing...
The OME torsion bars are adjusted so the ride height is about 1" over stock. The ride is slightly stiffer than stock, but nothing like stock torsion bars cranked 1".
It was really all about the time. I flew into town on Sunday afternoon, new motor was installed Monday, finished up the loose ends today (Tuesday) and finally taking the truck back to Vancouver tomorrow. Photos will be posted soon!
Hopefully I'll get a chance to check out your ride on the way...
Yes, I definitely considered a swap... but I have swapped enough engines/transmissions in the past to know I didn't have enough money or time to execute a swap on this truck with our time restraints. The biggest problem would have been finding an engine that actually had low mileage and right...
Here's a "spy photo" my sister took of the truck after my Dad decided to paint the fenders for us! Apparently he thought the white fenders looked too ghetto and decided to take care of it himself this weekend. Best birthday present ever.
Yeah, once I get a rear bumper on there I'll definitely be rerouting that pipe. I just wanted to throw something on there in the meantime since I'm not 100% sure where the bumper will end up. Thanks!
The 4Runner looks great Wildcat.
Check out the build thread (link in signature) of my 1989 Pickup. Not exactly a 4Runner, but close!
Also, let's see some photos of your rig as is!
I definitely understand! I've had a total of 4 weekends to work on my truck with another 2 or 3 before ditching out on our road trip. Hard to fit it all in while making the money to pay for it!
I believe the seats came out of a 1991 4Runner SR5. The passenger side bolted in by elongating the two back holes. The driver seat is currently bolted in with the "3 out of 4 ain't bad" method. I'll have to weld a short tab on the passenger-front to grab the last bolt hole. You could probably...
Plus you can't beat the value of the AutoGage line. I've run these in many vehicles and never had a bad experience. I expect these will get mounted quite simply under the stereo in our truck, but a pillar mount would be awesome!
If time and budget allows I'd like to install something like the...
Yes, the steering damper is a OME SD33 Steering Stabilizer.
I did consider the SR5 gauge swap but decided on the AutoMeter gauges for their accuracy. For example, I'd rather know that the engine is running at 210 degrees than just knowing it's running 'hot'. I definitely agree that the SR5...
