All you have to do is find somebody who's getting rid of it and doesn't know what they've got. A guy from work just sold one for $300 (200k,3.0L/5 speed) because he bought a new Frontier and didn't want to deal with his "beater" any longer.
If you're willing to work on the vehicle, don't shy away from something stupid cheap and spend the rest building it into what you want. As long as you've got a solid frame and halfway decent body to start with (and time)everything else can be purchased and installed relatively easily.
