Another Help Me Choose Thread: Bumper Edition

After checking on all possible rear complex style bumpers for the Tundra, I decided to purchase a HitchGate. It holds my full size spare, 2 MFC fuel cans, and my Hi-Lift. The thing is stout and strong. It cost roughly 1/2 what a complete rear bumper with all the fixin's would have cost for the...

Hawkeye Rovi - an adventure Tundra build.

I know that storage is going to be interesting. We have 10 years of motorcycle touring under our belts, and 5 years of touring in the Xterra (with 2 dogs) so I think I've learned a few lessons on how and what to pack (and equally important, what not to pack). Each year we seem to shrink the crap...

    Canadians... What's it really like?

Seriously? Thanks for the info, I'll have to check it out. Maybe it makes up for the Ruger 10/22 25 round mags.......which I had to try to explain to my excited nephew this past weekend by the way. Yes, young nephew, you can kill 10 pumpkins in a row, swap out the little mag and continue to...

    Canadians... What's it really like?

I wish. As far as I know, we can't access tannerite up here. I can buy those exploding targets, which are fun when stacked 1/2 deep, but that's about it. Strange things, government regulations are. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

Help with Firestone Airbags / Daystar Cups

Yes, you just don't connect the bottom of the airbag to anything. Bolt the cradle to the lower mount instead. I guess, if you had a warranty problem, you could remove the cradle, bolt the airbag to the bottom bracket, then proceed with your warranty inquiry.

Hawkeye Rovi - an adventure Tundra build.

I had built up our previous rig (a 2007 Xterra Offroad) into a fairly capable "overland style" adventure rig. Over the 5 years we had it, she took us everywhere. I outfitted it with a rooftop tent. upgraded the suspension, tires/wheels, bumper, added a winch, 12v fridge, etc.....all the stuff...

    Random dog shots

Ichabod Crane, our 2 year old Catahoula. He has certainly been a handful, has cost his fair share for good training, is unlike any other dog breed I have ever come across in my entire life, and I wouldn't change him for a thing. we brought him into our home as a companion and protector for our...

    Canadians... What's it really like?

I can't imagine living anywhere else in the world than BC. The size, extent, and majesty of our wilderness is really second to none. If I were an American looking to relocate "close to the border" I'd be looking at Washington, Idaho, or Montana. Coincidentally, we spent this afternoon...

    FWC and dometic cool cat

I've seen pictures of this type of setup, and that appeals to me. Gives you the option of taking A/C along if needed for an extended stay with power, or leaving it at home if on a backcountry road trip Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk

2016 Tundra, coming along, but I have questions

I had the Ironman kit on my old Xterra and had no real issues. I was looking for a budget minded setup at the time, and by luck bought the last kit from the dealer in Calgary (the feeling I got was that they were closing up shop....not 100% sure though) for a price I could not resist. The rear...

    Optimizing suspension for washboard?

I'm in the middle of building my Tundra for extended backcountry forestry road type travel, which will always include a lot of washboard type travel. I have a Four Wheel Camper in the production line as I type, and I have outfitted my truck with all new suspension components. After way too much...

    NISMO Shock Question

OME Dakar leaf pack. I put a similar style on my old Xterra (the Ironman HD leaf pack - don;t know if they are still available), and I've just installed the OME Dakar leaf packs on my Tundra. The OME leaf packs are great, super stout. I also added Firestone airbags to help out with the added...

The Snorkel's relevance to North American overlanding

I was going to get one for the Xterra, before I sold it and bought the Tundra. My sensible rationale was all about "water crossings, fresh air, blah, blah, blah...." but being honest with myself i wanted one 'cause they look the $h1te, right? I'll bet if their was an internal snorkel option...

    Large Winter Tires

I've resigned myself to the fact that my winters are never going to look as "cool" as my other 3-season tires. I consider good winter rated studded tires a good insurance policy. If I use them once to save the lives of my loved ones, they are worth every penny and worth the funny look. I live in...

    2016 Palomino Backpacker SS-550 Pop-up Truck Camper

We were in the same boat a couple months ago. I had a very nicely built Xterra with a RTT that had taken us many places. While it was a great vehicle (and if I ever needed an SUV again, I'd buy another Xterra in a heartbeat) we decided we wanted to change directions a bit. That led me to...

2016 Tundra, coming along, but I have questions

Wow, nice truck. I just bought a 2014 lease return TRD double cab and after much (way too much) research ending up buying ADS Racing remote res front coilovers, and their piggyback triple bypass rear shocks. I also have a set of Dakar springs, airbags, MCM Fab uca's, and new tires and wheels all...

Will I regret Michelin at2's in BC?

My Tundra came with the Michelin AT2's. They are being replaced in 2 weeks, but I did manage to go do some minor off-roading with them (still in 4lo up rocky loose dry stuff) and aired down they did a lot better than their mild appearance shows. Great on road manners, that's for sure. They...

    Tacoma/Tundra; Trd Pro?

When I decided it was time to move up from extremely capable and built Xterra I went with the Tundra and haven't looked back. (Well, the only time I look back is to see if the travel trailer is still there because in all honesty the truck barely notices towing it). Everything involves compromise...

Campervan to Truck camper - anyone done it?

Not quite what you are asking, but my Wife and I were trying to decide between an "overland worthy" full size van setup or a truck and pop up camper. I ended up going with the truck (Tundra) and will be ordering a Hawk pop up next month. I decided that this combo allowed me the option of choice...
