High court strikes down Chicago handgun ban

The actual statistics concerning handgun violence in DC, and surrounding areas of Va and Md completely contradict your statements, ESPECIALLY since the DC ban. And I've carried concealed in establishments selling alcohol for years without shooting anyone. Neither have most of the people I know...

It was decided two years ago, in the Heller decision.

    Combat Gauze / Quick Clot

LOL, kaolin is still an aluminasilicate... Al2Si2O5(OH)4 Just like zeolite. Works the same way, too. The reason you can put the powder in a can with water is that you're reacting all of it, all at once. That didn't happen in a body: There wasn't enough water.

    Combat Gauze / Quick Clot

The quick clot powder (the one that had the rumors flying) isn't made any more. Other forms of quick clot products are gauze based, like impregnated sponges or roller bandages. The powder was improved with gauze carriers because in a windy environment it would blow around as you were trying...

    Ham operation ethics

The claim that one should ONLY speak of ham radio topics is specious, and is completely contrary to the purposes of amateur radio - at least in the United States. Who knows about Belgium? In the US, Ham radio is tolerated (and thats the word to use) because of whatever tenuous connection it...

    12V use warning

An ammeter will show if there is any load on. Or pull the fuses for everything. Or install a master battery off switch.

    Bad Parenting

Traveling through Yellowstone NP, traffic stopped because of bears. Nimrod tells his kids to go get close to them for a picture.

Baja Medical Emergency, Hooked in to Help

Strong work! Good job! Sometimes a slight distractor works with kids - a tootsie pop, a plush toy, a tool of some sort. Also, a little lido (no epi in extremities, of course) in an insulin syringe works too (in Mexico, anyway).

Auxiliary fans in front of the radiator?

Use a new gasket, and some Permatex aviation form-a-gasket. For what the housing costs, replacing it might not be a bad idea. Likewise replacing the hoses while you're at it. And, a new radiator cap.

Where do you guys get your topo maps?

The Delorme Atlas and Gazetteer for So. Cal which is available from most bookstores, Amazon, and REI. Where in LA are you? Sports Chalet stores have sheets for the more popular areas, as do Adventure-16 stores and REI stores, afaik (it's been a few years since I was in LA). Or the online...

Modern winter jackets WOW things have changed

I had that same sort of epiphany back in 1990 or so....getting ready for some serious mountain climbing, and started out with what I knew (from 20+ years experience then) what worked: Wool, down, 60/40 parkas... Then I decided to try the new stuff. Polypro lining (long underware, socks, glove...

    Starting a SAR team?

It can be done. Who is legally responsible (or authorized) to conduct SAR operations in NC? They're the one that needs to sign off on it. Liability is an issue too, and there is a question over who is going to do what - SAR, extreme conditions LE (rapelling down a sink hole for a body?), etc...

    Almost a HAM.... Maybe.

Congratulations! Now that you've done it, I think the VE's make it as easy as possible. Their goal is to increase the number of hams, after all. The FCC publishes a very large list of questions, and tells the VE's to choose so many from each section. Some in each section are perhaps more...

    Apple Tablet: iPad

Of course. It's the Apple Way! In the mean time, there are at least a dozen manufacturers of pad-type devices that offer similar features, running Android or some other OS and can be put onto other networks - already being displayed in Japan and China. I can't wait to get one here. I'd...

Auxiliary fans in front of the radiator?

I've been using it in the MBZ for about 10 years, and the Ex since it went out of warranty, 5 or so years. I think about 7 years on the Yukon. In all of them, I did as thorough a flush of the cooling system as I could: Removed the thermostat, drained as much as I could, filled with water and...

Auxiliary fans in front of the radiator?

Evans NPG+ Waterless coolant in a zero-pressure system. I run it in my MBZ 300SD, Yukon and Excursion, never have a problem with cooling.
