I've got a Ram 3500 SRW on 37's and I am considering a trip out to Ouray. I need to know if Black Bear is driveable for my truck. I've heard stories of guys with DRW doing it but no pictures or actual first hand accounts.
So, can it be done?
I just signed up for the iKamper kick starter, it seems to share many qualities you just pointed out.
I would absolutely LOVE to see someone do a joint venture with exped or thermarest for an insulated air mattress in a RTT. Hell maybe they would make one in popular sizes if enough people...
Not that I would ever do this, or even recommend it, but I did see this the other day. To each there own, and if it solves your problem then great.
However, on the highway I see this as a very big potential problem.

This is what you are looking for. One is from frontrunner the other from Baja rack.
It solves the problem the correct way and you don't have to Jerry rig some red neck engineering contraption that will rust, look like crap, and will probably fail on the first rough trail.
Both are...
Eezi awns are sooo heavy compared to other brands though and their cover is a pain in the *** to get on and off with that ratchet strap. Plus that thing will be HUGE on the back of your avalanche. I honestly don't think it will fit unless it goes on the roof.

1.15 million when last I checked.
I caved and sprung for the canvas with both the annex and canopy. Just over $3000. I'm hoping that with the success of the campaign they will offer us the canopy or annex for free.

If you have cross bars ... it will mount. But I absolutely would NOT mount it to the factory rack. It is not designed to carry that much load.

I emailed them about the canvas version and they say all photos and videos are of the canvas.
They also said the rain flay can be rolled up out of the way but not detached.

Ok. Thanks.
I think I'm going to get one with the annex. I can't decide on the canopy.
My worries are:
Mattress not thick enough
Poor ventilation with the fly not being removable
Water or snow collapsing the annex since there are no "snow poles"
Poor quality, although for the price they...
So it appears that regardless of tent fabric, the canopy and annex are all poly.
I have an email in to see what color the canvas is going to be.

Did you look at the mattress? It's only an 1" thick but says its high density memory foam.
Also I wonder what color the poly cotton option fabric will be and if it's waterproofer impregnated material.

They have posted more videos now showing in a little, not much, more detail on the awning and annex. Plus they have released prices on these accessories as well. Apparently they will have 2 versions, a Poly/nylon and a Poly/cotton.
I really don't want to be the guinea pig on these but I also...
