I like this idea as well. I have thought about having that receiver portion run front to back so that you had a good (well maybe not good, but better) tow point on the back of the trailer. That way you wouldn't twist the frame up if you had to give it a tug. And it would give you the ability...
I am in the process of trying to answer a lot of these questions myself. I like the idea of matching it to your truck, but that's assuming your truck is the perfect setup.
I currently own a CDN M101 and would like to build a trailer more along the lines of the AT Horizon. I also just got...
Nothing wrong with a SOA truck for expeditions. Well maybe shipping becomes an issue as they might not fit in containers?? I guess tire availability may also become an issue outside of NA if you go to a really big tire. SOA, dearched OME and a set of 35-36 tires is a pretty sweet set up IMO...
We used the porta-privy from Cabelas on our trip to alaska. It sets up in seconds and take down is about the same AFTER you figure out how to twist the darn thing up. Quality is OK but I am concerned about zippers and seams. It got used for 25+ days this year so for a $49 item, it's been...
Great boat!! I made a sneak boat from Devlin boats a few years back and it was one of my favorite projects. I look forward to the day when I tackle building a big boat...
With my SOA and Dakkar heavies my rain gutter sits at 83" at the back and 82" at the front over the door.
With my high roof I have the extended rain gutter Yakima mounts that put me into the 92"-94" range.
You might have me beat on the height! I agree with not falling of the ladder, it could...
Lockers are a great recommendation. I think it was Mark Watley that gave me a great piece of advice with my Cruiser. Build it for the 5%. The rest will be easy if you do that. I think he was right. 85% of what we drive could be done in two wheel drive, 10% we need 4x4 and a modest tire...
I lied. The rack is closer to 8'. It's 92" to be exact. Depending on set up I could easily stand on the tire/slider from the side. I won't make it in my 8' foot door on the garage with the tent up there...and that really sucks.
That Magnolia sure looks easy on the set up. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Guys, It sounds like the hieght won't be an issue.
Bruce, the picture would be great. I would love the Magnolia, the wife wants something bigger... I think she has children on the brain:peepwall:
The wife and I are really considering a RTT in the future but our campstyle doesn't always allow us to carry the RTT on the top of the trailer. There are going to be times when the 14" Lund gets priority and the RTT will have to go on top of the Cruiser...which is a LONG ways up.
So we where...
Welcome and great choice of vehicle!!
We just returned from 30 days on the road with our HJ61 touring northern Canada and Alaska. It was a fabulous trip.
A couple things that really worked well for us (and a few that didn't):
1)Onboard shower with pop up encloser. We will never be without...
Yup, I did one, it's relatively easy. I also swapped out the axle at the same time. We did one on the trail head on our Alaska Cruiser Trek. The Y line of the ebrake may need some new mounting holes but it is straight forward once you get into it. You can even leave the shocks in place and...
Have you ever got tired of working on your truck?? I had to change a spring bushing tonight, not a tough job but something I didn't want to do. Normally I would have been excited I was heading out to the garage. Tonight I dreaded it. I am sooo glad we are leaving for our trek on Friday...
Thanks for some really good responses.
Are there any mechanical issues/differences that people don't like? I am a big fan of lever transfer cases and manual hubs, and I am sure in time these "fixes" will be available for the 05+ tacos (if they aren't already built)
But what about engines...
I am going to be running two cans up underneath for the offroad portion of our trip to Alaska. Not the best solution for everyone. A couple factors came into play for myself. The two cans will be used quickly, I am thinking withing the first two nights of our trip. Second, I am using...
How hot does your ExtremeAire get?? I fired mine up for a test run last night and holy smokes. I couldn't touch the head or the first 3ft of air line. Is this normal?
