    Suggestions for new Canon DSLR

What did you decide? We are looking at the Xsi with 18-28 IS lens and the 40D with 17 -85 IS lens for $500 more. I am not sure it's worth the $500 difference. Does anybody have any opinions on the two?

    Weight reduction and downsizing...

about AL rims I agree on this as well. Especially with a larger tire (35" +) I did some looking and my current tires, 38x14.5 Toyo MTs are 99lbs each plus rim. The 37x13.5 Toyo is 93lbs. In comparison a 37x12.5 Trxus is 79lbs. That's a big difference. I can also save about 7lbs a tire...

    Weight reduction and downsizing...

I have been pondering a downsize for my rig lately. Getting ready for our trip to Alaska has really got me thinking on what type of travel and vehicle we need. under full load I am weighing in at 6800lbs. HEAVY. My Cruiser is also tall, accentuated by the high roof line of the 61. But it is...

The Great On Board Shower Debate

This has also been the case with simple 4 little tubes to one big tube home made heat exchangers i have seen, they just aren't efficient enough. I have seen a couple on pirate (i think) that work well, but are fairly involved in making.

The Great On Board Shower Debate

I just picked up CIM (China Industrial & Marine  ) submersible bilge pump $29 from the great Princess Auto. I also got some hose, shower head and fittings for another $20. They only had 1.5" flat hose and I needed 1" The bilge pump is rated at 12V, 7.8Amps, with an outlet of 11/8"...

The Great On Board Shower Debate

Bruce, the Whipsaw trip was one of the dustiest trails I have been on. No top and no doors and I was a mess from head to toe. I can't remember if it was your rig or a gas 40 that I washed down in, but it was glorious!! I really like the idea of a bilge pump/submersible. I wonder how big a...

The Great On Board Shower Debate

We have two vehicles that we like like to drive and sometimes pull the M101 trailer. It opens up a lot of variables for sure. I don't mind hauling water with the trailer but don't want it in the truck. I don't want to buy two complete systems for each rig either... I like the concept of the...

    Canon G9

Thanks for the review. We are in the hunt for a new digital and are really struggling with the size/weight of a DSLR VS the compactness of the P&S. I already have a canon Elan 7 35mm and lenses so I was looking at the new rebel or the G9. The shutter lag seems to be a big complaint on this...

    Using fridge/freezer at home

Great question. I was thinking the same thing, but as a beer fridge in the garage?? I would guess the compressor would see increased use but it might be less then the off to freeze cycling by using it on the weekends? edit: Dang, Kurt beat me too it!!

    I love big kid puzzles!

Yup, duals. You can see the other arm in the first picture, I just don't have the spindle on yet. Good idea about the incline to compensate for the weight. I am basically steeling Lukes and Cristos design and modding it a bit. Using square tube for the fuel cans and dual verticle latches

I can't believe you lifted that tire up there. I don't know what a guy would do if it was just me. I busted a nut getting my 9.00R16 up there. Granted it's on a heavy split rim but WOW!! not to high jack, but what do you think? I agree. I am going to add a piece of tube back to the spindle...

What do you consider to be the best cookware kit?

I sent GSI a note this morning asking about a nesting colander. I also asked if any of the other lids would fit the HA set. And if they are available individually. We'll see what they have to say when they get back to me. It might be worth it for you to shoot them an e-mail as well. The...

5 new XZL tires on craigslist

I think they list for over $900CAD and retail for around that $700CAd mark. So really, $2300 is not that bad. And it includes rims.... ;)

What do you consider to be the best cookware kit?

We just picked up the GSI HA set and love it compared to my MSR SS. We have only cooked on it once but I doubt we will ever go back to SS. We have the four nesting pots and the wok. I have never used a pressure cooker...we might have to give that a try. I would like to find a pasta strainer...

    I love big kid puzzles!

This thing is awesome. I love seeing that XML up there. Great news on the wiggle factor as well. Could you do me a favor and measure the height of the spare tire arm? From on top of the swing out to the bottom of the angled piece you welded on? The vertical piece holding the tire up. It...

Clothe storage (not a pack pack)

What is everybody using? both the wife and I hate digging through a back pack or tall skinny dry bag to find our clothes. There has to be a better option out there? Has anybody tried the duffel bag dry bags?? They might offer better access to clothes...

Looks GREAT!!! How is the wiggle factor? Are you concerned about covering that left tail light? It looks like you might have room to slide everything to the right?

    I love big kid puzzles!

For those of you that have this style of swing out, where exactly is it moving? Is it at the spindle, is it the cross arm twisting? Or is it the upright that holds the tire? Or at the latch? I would really like to know exactly where the problem is. I am using 2"x2" .25 wall tubing, and I...
