Updates!
So not a whole lot has been accomplished since the last update. Life has been busy and I had to check a few things off the honey to do list. That being said, I was able to look into the noisy suspension issue and another round of re-torquing has more or less cured the problem. Things...
Just a quick update:
After several weeks and 500 or so miles I do have to report that the OME/886 combination is a bit noisy. It makes a clunking sound while rebounding from sharp bumps or cross flexing while turning. Everything has been checked and retorqued but the noise still occurs. I can...
Granted I haven't loaded up the bed with enough weight yet to really cycle the Dakars through their travel, but they seem to play nice with each other. The rear end has a firm, controlled feel to it. In the 500 miles since the combo has been on I've been pleased.
Thanks for the helluva awesome trip report! I'm sad it has ended though, it's my last week at this job and I'm only halfway through. Need more reading material!
Also, bravo to your dad for being so awesome. He sounds like the kind of father you should be proud to have.
Earlier this year I paid ~20K for a 2007 double cab TRD Off-Road with 93K on the clock. After that got totaled it made no sense to me to by one that was 2-3 years old with 50K on them for literally 3K less than I could buy a brand new one for. I just don't get it.
I think you hit the nail on the head. If you intend to take the truck, throw on some good tires and go enjoy it, the Off-Road is the perfect platform to do so. If you intend to do a full "build", it's probably worth skipping in favor a base model.
Having had both a set of OMEs and now a set of Icons my vote is for Icon. They control the back end of the truck a lot better IMO. Their construction is also top notch and let's face it, they just look cool too ;).
After a week of plummeting temperatures and snowfall, I am here to report that the BFG Mud Terrains are indeed pretty sub-par in the snow. Not that this was totally unexpected, just re-confirming what was initially suggested.
Trip to the RMV tomorrow to find out how much I have to bend over to...
I recently purchased a 2015 and can share the following:
- To my knowledge, only the e-locker equipped trucks (TRD Off-Road) have the 8" rear end. All others have the 8.4"
- In my experience, the transmission will hold whatever gear unless damage would occur.
- A properly equipped Tacoma is...
And the official response from ARB regarding the rear shocks not fitting
"I don't see an option at this point other than modifying the mounts on your truck slightly for clearance. I'm going to try to get my hands on a 2015 truck and see if I can determine what has changed on the mounts to make...
