    Project "Autonomous" F-350

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure the bolt pattern from the 460 is different from the mod motors and all of the diesel motors. I don't think you're going to find a better motor to bolt to your existing ZF5. If you want to do a full drivetrain swap, check out fleet auctions. Lots of high...

Question on Logic of Swapping 20” OEM Rims on Superduty for 17” Rims

I think the steel wheels Ford offered were 18". Look around and make sure that 17s will fit with no brake caliper interference. Aside from that, larger tires need less air pressure for a given load, so they often do ride softer than lower profile tires. They will be less stable laterally...

Prices on EP Classified seem to be HIGH!

I think a lot of vehicles here are overpriced, but there is the occasional good deal to be found. The flip side is that you're mostly dealing with people who know and care about vehicles. Buying off Craigslist or Facebook can be a total crapshoot, and most sellers can't tell you maintenance...

    2500/3500 Ram/Chevy/Ford??

I've always gotten noticeably worse mileage in Missouri and Kansas than I do in Colorado. I assume it's due to ethanol content, and I would expect Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota to be similar.

    OBS 350 as Platform?

Nope. 10.5 mpg. That includes pulling the empty trailer there and the full trailer back. That was a pretty good mix of rural/steep highways and interstate. Honestly, I thought it would be worse. No drama whatsoever.

    OBS 350 as Platform?

Follow up on this one. The V10 Super Duty tows at least as well as the OBS Powerstroke. Loaded trailer weighed somewhere around 8,500 lbs, so it was a bit lighter than the skid loader we used to pull with the old truck, but it was way more pleasant.

    OBS 350 as Platform?

We had a 1995 with a flatbed. As soon as we didn't need it anymore, I sold it. Haven't regretted it once. Watching the chassis twist in the mirror on the mildest offroad work was disconcerting. The 7.3 Powerstroke was fine, but it wasn't anything special. Our 2001 has a 6.8 V10 and it does...

    Full size wheelbase

I drive a crew cab F250 with a 6.5' bed. The truck I had right before this one was a crew cab F150 with a 5.5' bed. Off road I don't even notice the wheelbase difference, which says more about the terrain than the truck, but it sounds like your off road driving would be similar. For me, the...

    Decked system in 8’ bed

Can you mount the drawers up tight to the front of the bed, leaving the 2' gap at the back. It would give you a lower spot to load smaller, heavier items right at the tailgate. Should still be able to reach the drawers.

Simple rims for modern full size trucks?

That happened to a set of chrome wheels I had on my last truck, but the leak was at the valve stem, not the bead. My wife drives a Honda that loses air over time. I have heard that their aluminum wheels are bad about corroding at the bead seat, but I've never seen one of them without tires on it.

Simple rims for modern full size trucks?

I think field repairing a steel wheel is so unlikely it shouldn't be a consideration. If you're running a decent sized tire and still hit something so hard that the rim gets damaged, you are going to have more significant problems than a bent wheel. I like factory steelies, but that is based...

    Tire recommendation: Infrequently used F250

Every mud terrain I've had worked similarly off road. The differences were most apparent in their street manners. If you don't care about that, just pick a cheap one.

Does a 230 mile/charge range make you more or less likely to buy a Lighning?

I couldn't replace my truck with an electric, but 99% of my wife's driving would be covered by the F150's 230 mile range. If it was an AWD SUV with a third row, I would be very seriously considering one. I love the Rivian R1S, but it's way out of my price range.

“Big Bear” 1979 F700 Firetruck Build

Cummins is the obvious answer. The diesel vs. gas debate is different with modern engines, but in this case diesel all the way.

Hey Ram folk, input on high mileage 6.4L Hemi?

I don't have direct experience with them, but the main concern I have heard is related to long idle times. I don't remember the specific issue anymore, but I believe it was related to insufficient oiling in the top end at idle speeds. I often shop used fleet vehicles because there are still...

    2019 F350 6.2L 4WD build thread; HPI flatbed, ATO AterraXL composite camper, Carli/King, 37s, 4.88s, etc

The Patagonia AT's are a good highway and gravel tire. They are crappy in any kind of slick offroad driving. I don't regret buying them, but I have to use 4wd way more than I did with the Firestone Destination MT's I had before. I won't buy them again.

    WTB: Ford ZF-5 Transmission

This is a bit of a long shot, but I'm checking here to see if anyone has a ZF-5 or ZF-6 they are looking to sell. It needs to be 4x4 and from a 1999 or newer, Ford, gas truck. I'd really prefer the ZF-5, but I'd probably be fine with either. I will also be looking for a bunch of other parts...
