Poll: Scrap gen3 limited? Need your opinion

Comparing the work to monthly payments is a great way to look at it. Your right, insurance and registrations are easily over looked. Can you afford a huge bill every year just to put tags on the new car........? I shudder to think what the registration and insurance are on some of these...

Poll: Scrap gen3 limited? Need your opinion

Our two vehicles are an 01 F250 and an 03 Montero, so I deal with the delima of older vehicles all the time, especially with the f250 being higher mileage. Id look at it this way: -consider the price, age and mileage of the vehicle that will replace the montero. -what's your time worth? Older...

New 3.5L from Salvage Yard - Where to Start?

Don't run the engine, you will loose more time and money. It's a futile exercise knowing this engine has a dead cylinder. The engine clearly needs to come all the way apart. Are there any local forum members that can help you? I hate to say this, but it may be time to cut your losses and...

Gen 3 with Load Range E Tires?

+1 on the Cooper st maxx. I'm amazed how quiet they are. 100% better than the At3 that were on there. So far at 35 psi I've been really pleased with the 255s road manners.

    ARB problems in a Gen3

The bulk head fitting could be a possibility, but given that cycling the locker stops the leak I feel it points to either the carrier bearing o rings, or more likely an internal leak within the arb unit. I'll try and get a little more four wheeling in and update the symptoms.

    ARB problems in a Gen3

I've installed ARBs and 4.9 gears in my Gen 3. I'm having an odd leak with the rear ARB I'd like some input on. I plan on contacting ARB too, but so far I've only wheeled in the truck once and would like to get it out a few more times to make sure I am accurately describing the problem. We're...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

Maybe not a code, but it seems a lean condition should show some kind of variance across both 02 sensors on that bank. Fuel trims would be interesting to watch, but your problem sensor is reading considerably lower than the other 3 sensors. I'd also try pulling the O2 connector and cleaning it...

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

Check the fuel trims for each sensor, but I think I'd just take a chance and replace that o2 sensor. The fact the down stream sensor seems to be reading in line with the other bank points to the up stream sensor being faulty. Not an expert opinion, but If it were my car I'd take a gamble on...

New 3.5L from Salvage Yard - Where to Start?

Bummer. Take it back under the warranty. By the way, any decent junk yard that is selling an engine should always have a compression test done prior to selling it and provide the results with the engine. At this point i think you really need to decide what to do. Get a quality reman engine...

Also check for exhaust leaks. They will give o2 codes as well.

2003 Montero Limited - Lawrence of Arizona

Good comparison thanks. FYI on the CEL..... Mine had similar issues. The dealer I purchased it from put new O2 sensors in, but I was still getting codes. I replaced all four sensors with OEM. I think Denso (??). I never got codes again. I have read other people with similar issues using...

New 3.5L from Salvage Yard - Where to Start?

Call the yard and ask if the warranty will be voided if you pull the front cover and fix leaking gaskets. I'd hope not...... Either way, I'd put a belt on it, valve cover gaskets, plugs, wires, general maintance stuff, etc. You need to get it to a baseline and it will be much much easier on a...

    Rambo Penguin's Gen 3 Build!

Looks great, nice work! I have not bumped up to 33s yet, but I did change the gearing to 4.9s in anticipation of new tires. Based on what you said I'm glad I did. You should consider changing gears. I think it was under $500 for front and rear 4.9 3rd members off ebay. I installed ARB...

Finally found something I don't like about the Gen 3!

Although it's got a big rear-end, just put a hitch on or build a bumper and let it drag. Cutting out the storage box would not give you much and it seems pointless to hack up a good vehicle and loose valuable storage space. A smaller departure angle would be nice, but I'd hate to have a...

Finally found something I don't like about the Gen 3!

I dont know I like the seats. Yes, I am amazed at how ************ the cup holders are, lol. Although at times I hate the lack of articulation, other times I love how well 4 wheel independent suspension works.....

Gen 3 ome shock and spring install

Why would they not be able to get the wheel straight? That has noting to do with camber........ After a 1000 miles it would be worth re-aligning it. The suspension will settle some.
