You have to consider the cost of labor as well.
People tend to gloss over the labor costs of manufacturing something like this and the amount of time spent developing CAD files and running machinery, assembly, etc. etc.
Great looking bumper, nice job on the build. I am originally from Maryland, now living in Utah. Looking into building a Tundra for a pop up camper next. I envision something very similar to your build.
You ever fly fish the Gunpowder? I grew up a mile away from the river. Great memories.
Jon, other than the modularity, any other major differences between the Mits and Norweld trays? How do the Mits trays mount, vehicle specific brackets?
Thanks!
I have 285/70r17s with a fullsize spare in the stock location. It's tight and I've polished the powder coating off the rear trackbar with the tire rubbing but I have no issues otherwise.
Perfect timing for an article like this. I was planning on selling my vehicles and starting a new build in anticipation of future kids, even had a buyer lined up for this evening. I asked ExPo if my ideas were realistic and most folks said, you cannot plan for children, as much as you may try...
I just want to say thank you to everyone who responded. You all have incredible insights and first hand experiences that we look forward to having ourselves.
Also, I appreciate the kind words and congratulations. We're very excited for the next chapter in our lives and I hope that continues to...
Great insights, and thanks for the reality check. We're excited but maybe I'm focusing on the entirely wrong things while planning for a future family. There's no way to plan what older kids will be into but either way, it's going to cut into camping availability and feasibility. I have a couple...
Wow, such great insights from everyone. Thank you all for taking the time to share your experiences. So much to digest and so many things I never considered. I don't have many close friends with kids out west, I will be one of the first in our circle so this is very enlightening.
The comprise...
Definitely agree here. We ended up ordering the Lexus from Vroom because we could not find anything in a 500 mile radius. I'm sure we overpaid but she actually needed a new vehicle. We couldn't really put that one off any longer.
I was primarily looking at used Tundras, maybe a 7.3 F250, Ram...
Sprinters are cool, can't afford a $60K empty van let a lone a full build. I'd be up for the van concept, even with lack of future retrofitability, it just comes down to the financials on the van. I do live in SLC but the truck would be recreational use primarily so I wouldn't be driving the...
Hi Expo,
This may not be the correct sub-forum but I don't know where else to post it. If this is incorrect, mods can move/delete. I tried searching for similar posts but I couldn't find anything quite accurate to my questions.
So, I've been wheeling Jeeps ever since I had a driver's license...
I can't speak to anyone's regrets but we've installed a handful of Norweld trays and they are top notch quality and even better customer service. I see the US market heading this direction and we'll start to see more and more of these conversions.
Never installed a canopy though. Would love to...
I have the same exact conversations with customers when selling campers. I use Australia as my go-to example of a country who takes payload, GVWR and vehicle modification very seriously. I don't really care about the regulation arguments, either way, the author's main points still stand.
I...
