On an 03 is there any maintenance that needs to be done to the propeller shaft? The only grease nipple I found was on the front ujoint.....but in the owners manuel it says to grease the propeller shaft. Does it need to be removed to grease the joints?
Thanks. The skids have been working really good. They got a little bit of a workout doing webster with some big rocks getting kicked up. It was nice hearing the loud ding and knowing it was not the transmission pan!
I want to add one more skid over the transfer case but I'm not sure where to...
No additional modifications yet, just too busy, but I have all the parts for the timing belt, etc as well as the metal for the sliders.
We did do some good wheeling this weekend around Webster Pass and the Montezuma area. Really impressed with the Montero for not even having a lift yet...
I had the same issue and the price is actually why I made this post to start with. The Big O's listed at $309 per tire, while the BFG where $275. Enough of a price gap to make you think.
However, every time I have got Big O tires I push them on the price and they always seem to have plenty...
Well I decided to just go with the Big Os again. I first went to Costco and priced the BFG KO2s at $1255 something out the door and then told Big O if they could come in under $1250 I'd do the Big O, well they came in at $1249:sombrero: Im pretty happy with that because you get the full road...
Once again sorry to hear about the problems, that sure is disappointing after finding a clean and low milage vehicle. Great attitude and way to deal with the problem though.
Did you install the engine yourself? What kind of warranty did the new engine come with?
For the past 4 years I have been running 315/70 r17 Big O AT's on my 01 F250 Powerstroke. After about 45k miles its time to replace the tires and when looking at spending $1200+ (ouch) I just want to make sure Im making the right choice.
I'm most likely just going to go with the Big O's again...
Have you done any off road with it? I was very, very impressed with how well it did off road and that is stock with just slightly larger tires.
If making a truly built rig there are much better platforms than a monte, but comparing stock or mild modification I really think the Montero can do...
Looks fine. What tranny cooler does it have? Not sure with an ambulance but the 7.3 tranny coolers are a joke and can really be a weak link. Maybe look into a 6.0 cooler. Your a little over 180 for the which tranny isn't bad but I guess that depends on what kind of driving that is....
Nice...
Well at least your getting it taken care of Deltafry. Great attitude BTW, I'd would be so pissed if my new truck needed a motor! Way to deal with it head on.
Thanks for the picture, are the arms that attach to the stock mounting points from the running boards? Looks like it with maybe some plate as reinforcement.......
Nice job running the Rubicon!
Thanks guys. One guy on the trail really gave me a glaring look. It seemed he thought I was 4x4ing my Rav4:smiley_drive:
For those that have made sliders, how did you attached them to the truck? I wanted to use the stock mounting points and was going to try using angle iron, but after this...
1st real 4x4 outing, really the longest trip after buying it in Houston come to think of it. We went up to the old military plane crash on Bunce School Rd, outside of Boulder Colorado. I use to ride my motorcycle up the road several years ago and I did not remember it being this hard...
Hard to say, but I doubt its bottom end related. Id say much more likely to be top end, lifters, valves etc. Especially given the sudden power loss when the problem started and it not wanting to run.
Sorry to hear it, that looks like a nice rig.
Well the first problem with the mods has already popped up. The skid plate over the transmission reflects a considerable amount of noise back up to the cabin.
Not sure what I'm going to do, anyone have luck with undercoatings to reduce noise?
