That was definitely it. No other damage to the camper electrical system. However...…. I'll share an embarrassing mistake that I hope will save someone
some grief. After disconnecting and taping off potential hot wire ends except for the leads from the truck. I thought I had unplugged the...
Had a power failure while camping at Red Top Mountain State Park. Before I start pulling things apart, I thought I'd run it by the forum for ideas.
While making my morning cup of coffee "with inverter on for Keurig pulling approx. 180 amps for less than a minute" all battery power shut down...
Yeah I get the concept about positive pressure, but I wonder if you lose some efficiency pulling colder outside air directly through the larger intake. The propex is already designed with a specific fresh air intake. I think if a larger volume of outside air is to be utilized, an air exchanger...
We recently did a quick trip to Huntington beach state park. It's near Murrells Inlet just south of Myrtle beach.
While it wasn't an off road adventure and we had to slab sit, it was a nice get away to the beach. Camping and seafood buffet time!
One of the features I like about this size...
I went with the wireless remote Rieco Titan camper jacks. Each supports 2500 lbs.

Lots of good information and ideas. If and when I do another build, I will definitely do it differently.
As for cost. If you were to buy a premade shell/box, it would probably cost you over 10k.
If you were to use the Pink XPS, total material cost would come in around 4k.
So price is not bad...
Thanks for this, very interesting. When I initially thought about drilling and filling the panels, it wasn't concern for delamination. Instead, it was reinforcement for the less dense and less expensive pink XPS foam board. Also by having attachment points between the FRP, you no longer have...
Have not done any calculations. Panels are made with 2" Dow high density XPS foam board. FRP skins are 2mm thick. Windows are dual pane acrylic.
When temps exceed comfort, we have a insulated cover for the pass through.
Thanks for your interest, hope this info helps you build your own creation. As for what I have discovered; I'd say the panels have exceeded my expectations. By this I mean insulation factor. I wanted a camper that would provide comfort and protection in any climate. My first camper was a...
I've been wondering how much weight could have been saved if I went with a lighter guage aluminum angle.
So, I began by weighing some left over 4" angle, each 20" in length. One was the structural and the other broke at 14 or 16 guage, not sure.
I used the structural mainly on the exterior...
Yeah, no doubt there is not much you can do about the inside stuff, unless you want to go bare bones.
Regarding the aluminum channel. I noticed there is a substantial weight difference between the structural 4" and architectural 3". I went with the 4" to have enough overlap for the 2" panel...
It's been a little over a year since completion. Very happy with the lithium batteries and the insulation of the panels. Still contemplate on how to make
a lighter box. However, its time for some decoration. This part was a little tricky since my wife and I have different tastes. So, we...
Added a few mods; shelf below the cabinets for cooktop storage and whatever else is needed, hard wired led lights in the bathroom and above counter.
This makes a huge difference, just had to determine how to run the wire to existing line and tap in. No more batteries.
Also re-made the rear bed...
Attended my first Van Rally this weekend. It's very cool that Ashville Van Life takes an all inclusive approach to these gatherings.
Lot's of cool rigs and interesting friendly people. https://www.ashevillevanlife.com/
Thanks for the response, that was a good summary of why I posted this build thread :)
If you look at page 1, you will see the 4" aluminum L channel. While its strong, it does add substantial weight.
After reading this article http://www.truckcamperadventure.com/why-wood-frame-construction/ it...
Yes, that is all in. Water tank empty.
While this weight is over 1000 lbs lighter than my previous camper, it still came in higher than I'd hoped.
Anybody have thoughts or experience regarding this weight number or type of construction?
I was wondering if a combination of wood framing and epoxy...
