MB 1120 Coming to America! Purchase, Build and Now Travel!

On our GXV build we have the same issue with the countertop ending above our bench seat. We had them attach a strip of the countertop material (about an inch wide and the thickness of the stock countertop material) along the edge of the counter from the backsplash to just before the front edge...

    Jacks for expedition vehicles

There is the option of buying the Chinese version of the MatJack direct from Starye Firefighting Equipment. I bought three 18 Ton lifting bags (just the bags) for about $1200 including shipping mainly to use for leveling and possibly for jacking or recovery. I expect they are not the same...

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

What are the major factors besides fuel that get you to $1-2 per mile. Based on the first 33,000 miles on our Kenworth K370 I don’t think we are anywhere near that at this point but I haven’t really tried to calculate the cost per mile...

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

When I had about 18,000 miles on our GXV Kenworth Patagonia I stopped in to the Goodyear Commercial Tire dealer in Springfield MO who supplies the tires to GXV to ask about tire rotation. They looked at the Goodyear G278 tires and did not recommend a rotation based on the wear of the rather...

    EarthCruiser Overland Vehicles

I follow several on Instagram and Facebook, they sometimes post videos. I can provide a list if you are interested. Lance has some good videos at the company video site explaining the logic behind some of the design choices that you might want to see if you haven’t already seen them.

Expedition Vehicles: ridiculously overpriced or not

One thing I have noticed is that there continues to be a move to have complete camper body builds done in lower labor cost countries in some cases at dedicated facilities. Discovery Motorhomes in Australia is having the camper body built in South Africa and shipped to Australia for mating to the...

    Operating cost of earthcruisers?

I don’t know about the Fuso but for the Kenworth K-370 chassis on our GXV Patagonia, the fuel costs for the 30,000 miles we have driven are probably around $11,250 (8 mpg avg, $3 per gal avg fuel price). Maintenance every 15,000 miles is probably about $400-500 for oil, filters, lube, so less...

    EarthCruiser Overland Vehicles

I guess it depends on what you are using to do bulk charging. If you have a generator and don’t get enough solar charge then you can do an early morning bulk charge up to 80% or so with the generator and then let the solar handle the long period needed for the final absorption charge on AGM...

    EarthCruiser Overland Vehicles

The 50% discharge guideline for AGM batteries is something that has been around for a long time but it is something that doesn’t stand up when you look at the specifications of high quality AGM batteries such as Lifeline. Discharge up to 80% depletion does not really reduce the overall lifetime...

    Expedition Vehicle selection thoughts?

Looks like they have more airline track on the rear and the other side too for additional mounting points. I added track to the interior walls of the rear garage storage area to allow hanging stuff from the sides. I put together a clothes/towel drying rack that attaches to the side of the...

    Expedition Vehicle selection thoughts?

That does look like a good chassis for an expedition truck, simple with standard parts so relatively easy to maintain over a long life. In the US you see older motor homes from Bluebird that live on forever for the same reason.

I know how he feels . What a nightmare

Good that you got help to get upright in a remote area so you could drive to get things fixed but it is painful to watch when you compare it to a recovery done at less remote spot with equipment that could have avoided as much damage to the vehicle. You surely did the best you could given the...

Expedition truck disabled on the side of the road in Denali NP

They finished the road from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk last year so the only issue now is that it gets closed or weight limited if there is a lot of rain. I don’t know if an Ice Road will be in use in the winter anymore now that they have a road but that would be something to experience.

Expedition truck disabled on the side of the road in Denali NP

It actually was a great experience to spend some extra time in Denali, never a bad thing to do... After we finished at Kenworth in Fairbanks we took an overnight trip up to the Arctic Circle. We decided to wait until next year to travel all the way up to Deadhorse. Our plan originally was to...
