Stumptaco's has gone over to the darkside..XJ style.

Spent a couple more hours today getting the strap and mounting tabs welded on. I will paint it and mount it tomorrow. I am pretty pleased with it. It aint perfect, but its a damn site better than a ratchet strap to the tool box. Welded on the rear mounts. Front mount. Next up...

That reminds me... I never updated this thread with the front bumper/winch modification. Since I moved the smittybilt to the rear bumper, I had to modify the front bumper on the front to accept my Warn 8274 winch. Was pretty straightforward. This winch is a BEAST! It was a little scary just...

Thanks for the compliments, I will be using the Comp 4x4 hinge, with the sleeve. Single shear at this point, but I may come up with something. The sleeve really takes out the issues of the heat screwing up the temper on te stub shaft. I am installing one on a friends bumper right now, and it...

Thanks guys! It all 16 gauge, maybe 5-6 pounds? Its not heavy, but should be strong enough to keep the cylinder in place once it gets bolted down. The cylinder is pretty heavy when full, and not much lighter when empty. ~ James

    Zelix Homemade Trailer Build

Good point Pat! I always carry a few short pieces of 2x4. You never know. Also, I almost forgot this on my shakedown run, but you may want to bring a set of jackstands for the rear of the trailer... Mama wont be happy if the trailer tilts up if she rolls over during the night! You can see my...

    Zelix Homemade Trailer Build

Cool deal, did the flat stock help on the hinge side? I would think it could only go so far before it stops on the steel, which is what you need. Just gonna not worry about the cover until after the weekend? Strap it down, and it should be ok. How much firewood did you get? Charles has...

Welded the wings on... Just a quick test fit in the Jeep. It will get three bolts through the floor, and 3 bolts throught the inner sheet metal on the side wall, right where the old seat belts used to come out. And, finally for the day, test fitted the rubber isolators. Will...

This is a cross post from NAXJA.org, but figured I would update my build thread here as well. I have been unsure about where to mount my CO2 bottle for quite a while now, and it usually ends up being strapped down right before a trip. I wanted something a little more permanent, and stronger, so...

    Raptor Lined the XJ's fenders

That looks great! One of the best things I did to my XJ. The herc will fade, I did mine with it, and it fades nicely. Looked kinda goofy all shiny. ~ James

Little modification for Camping Lab style RTT's

Not really, as soon as I got back to the states, I built an offroad trailer, and can no longer use the changing room. (anybody wanna buy one?) Thats it. Yes, you can leave it attached and still throw the cover on, but half the time I didnt need the room, so having it flop down was just a pain...

    Sources in Germany???

I can only answer from the civilian side, but we had to get a civilian/tourist passport ourselves, and it took about 6 weeks. We also were issued two "official" US government passports (they are brown, instead of blue) I remember them being here quicker. My wife handled all of the work with...

    Sources in Germany???

Another good point. Ryan air is your friend. I flew to Stockholm Sweden and back for 18 euros, round trip. The ticket was 0.01 euro cents, and the rest was taxes. Trains can be expensive to travel on, depending on the destination/departure. Do your research and figure out the bahnhof system...

    Sources in Germany???

The Military Jeepers site is a great way to meet up with the other guys and get groups together for wheeling trips. We had a reaaly good group when we were there, and did all sorts of cool trips (Normandy wheeling, Poland, etc etc.) The numbers likely refer to the amount of watts they can...

    Sources in Germany???

They are called VAT forms (Value Added Tax). You can get up to 10 of them at one time, and I think they used to cost around 20 bucks for 10. You have to turn in the receipts before you are allowed to get more of them. DONT LOSE the receipts! They can be used for larger purchases on the German...

    Sources in Germany???

Yeah, the TUV is tough. Just be glad you are there with the US in terms of vehicle inspection. You will find lots of thing like that, but believe me its an awesome place. Just gotta go there with the right state of mind. I HIGHLY recommend you taking the heavy/large stuff over there in your HH...

    Sources in Germany???

yep... There was a guy on base with a F350 on 44" boggers. Th OP shouldnt have any trouble since he falls under USAEUR regulation. The only thing they sort of frowned on at inspection was the tires sticking past the fender slightly on my Jeep, but that was a German inspector, not a US guy. He...

    Sources in Germany???

what part of Germany? I recently spent 4 years over there in the Ramstein/K-town area. I got my RTT, awning etc while over there and was able to pick it up from the wharehouse as it was only about 2 hours from me. There are VERY few 'shops' that sell offroad stuff since it is very heavily...
