MY VERSION OF THE ROOFTOP TENT
Mark,
I found the tent I intend on using. It's a 10'Lx10'Wx7'H cabin style tent made by Eureka called "Copper Canyon." I fabricating a platform similar to your rig. However, my platform with be 10.5'Lx6.5'W and the widtin will have an additional portion that...
Someday,
Thanks for believing in my abilities, but I'm learning as I'm going along. And yes, the businesses I have been using to complete my M101 mission are on Industrial Blvd in BP. If you need any other info regarding the media blasting and/or welding let me know.
Highlandercj-7,
I love...
THE TUB HAS STARTED
I dropped the tub off at Ameritec Media Blasting in Bethel Park today. Soon I'll know how the tub looks clean and deal with the repair and fabrication work.
Man this job is moving slow........
The frame is moving along and nearly ready for re-prime and paint. Unfortunately we found three stress cracks in the "A" frame of the tongue. So we have to grind out the cracks and weld for the repair. A slight setback. But, getting the chassis reassembled and finished is going to feel good...
They sat flush. However, I had to clear the entire hub to allow the hubsentrick wheel to seat properly. So the spacer is 2.5" thick, which worked out perfectly. I designed the axel short to allow the spacers to compensate for the width and so the tires on the trailer match the width of the...
Yes. But after I clean them up (media blast, prime, and paint). Although I'm not sure there are any other 1950s M101 owners out there. The A2 and A3 people are all over the place, but I haven't seen any original M101s around.
FABRICATING BEGINS
The new tongue fabrication in tacked on and ready for welding. Angles have been added to support the tongue box and the tongue has been lengthened using the 2" receiver tube to allow the rear door of my JK to swing open with the box added.
The 2" receiver tube was tacked on...
PRIMER ON & READY TO WELD
Dropped of the frame for the modifications and welding at Wegco in Bethel Park PA. They are going to fabricate the new tongue using a 2" receiver tub. Also adding a 2" receiver tub at the rear to be used for a bike rack.
Mark,
As far as the cost goes for the...
TOURCH REQUIRED
It took a cutting touch to get the remaining bolts out of the tongue. Now stage 1 is complete! The entire trailer has been dismantled. One of the many impressive finds with this trailer is the quality and condition of the sixty year old suspension. The grease fitting in the...
THE TEAR DOWN CONTINUES
Today the frame is nearly stripped of all parts. I had some trouble with minor issues but was able to move forward. Next is the suspension. I didn't have any help, so I was unable to flip the frame to make it easier on me. I'll finish that tomorrow. I hope....
The "A"...
Jim,
I'm not sure if there was a difference in the hinge system, but I don't think was a dump trailer. The hinges at the front of the frame are clearly designed to be hinges. I was told that this trailer unbolted at the rear of the "A" frame so to create legs when folded up. This made...
2" RECEIVER FOR BIKE CARRIER
I got the 2" receiver to weld to the rear of the frame. I plan on having it welded a few inches lower than the bottom of the frame. The addition space gained will be used to install the tree red LED lights above the receiver and below the frame. By doing so...
Thanks Mark...
I'm very happy with the trailers over all condition. However, I do have concerns with one two areas. The first concern is the location where the "A" frame bolts to the front portion of the frame (pivot point). The pivot pint is bolted to the frame and the bolt portion is rusted...
