Call in a headlight super freak for a consultation
If you need some credible data and recommendations on headlights, pm Hilldweller with a few questions. Bill is sort of the Lord of the Lumen and the recommendations he gives are based in science. Some of the HID and LED info you find on the...
Very insightful post. The wisdom of your words can really only come from the experience of being on the road. Thanks for posting your perspective.
Sadly, too many of us are "too invested in our rides" to borrow a brilliant phrase. Many of us are in our driveways building a solution that's...
Thanks all for your ideas. I swapped batteries between my Silverado and XJ without a change in symptoms. I was distraught that that didn't fix it but always had suspicions it wouldn't. On the advice of some folks I started disconnecting, inspecting and reconnecting every wiring connection I...
Grounds are good.
No it isn't turning over, the solenoid is just clicking.
I am concerned about the voltage fluxuating so much once it actually did start. I am (sorta) convinced the two issues are related.
1999s are the last year with distributors. The 2000 and 2001s were coils. None the less, I think we're barking up the wrong tree, the ignition system is not really causing my engine not to crank over.
Yesterday my 1999 would not start when I tried to drive back from lunch. It acted like a dead battery. The Solenoid just click, click, click, clicked. The volt indication on my Scangage said 9.6V.
I got a jump start and still click, click, click. I goofed with the two batteries'...
Help me fill my Overland Travel tool kit
Wow, provocative question. Provocative in the sense that the ultimate toolkit is dependent upon the overall condition, age, serviceability and level of alteration of the target vehicle as well as anticipated service required by the payload ie. camping...
C'mon Martyn, this statement is unfounded. Prescott continues to be on Chicago's heels for the title of "Windy City".
You're correct, modern glues are stellar performers and limit the requirement for complex joinery for high strength applications. Limit, not eliminate. Dovetails have an...
I didn't know African travel was possible without a diesel Toyota LC or a Land Rover :yikes:
I'm just as alarmed to find a lack of bullbar availability for the 944! How will I mount the winch?
Maybe we don't really need all the stuff we think we need?
On the trail, I have never done any hard core laundering. I have rinsed sweaty shirts in a stream or lake. The results of that felt like luxury.
During the first months of Operation Northern watch we had teams on remote patrol for 3-5 days. The fellas pack pretty light on personal items...
Congrats on the upcoming retirement. You'll find the JKUR terribly capable right off the lot. I wouldn't be too quick to buy anything for it right away. Just find out how and where you'll be using it, what type and frequency of trips you end up taking and then tailor the rig for your...
So, not everyone is enamored with every feature in your truck, no big deal. You built it how you needed (and wanted) it. No sense building yet another cookie cutter ExPo Tacoma to appeal to the masses. Everyone is however, and justifiably, quite enamored with the skill and execution of your...
[I am NOT an expert] I have never rattle canned a project this large. My only experience is spray painting the hood of an old VW GTI autocrosser I used to compete with. I found the nozzle of the aerosol paint can leaves a lot of surface imperfections. Wet sanding and prep wiping between...
