those 4 little squirrels will take you everywhere.
gearing is the key.
3rd gear up the passes in the sierras at 45mph is best you'll do on an average day.
31"s = stock or 4.88
33"s = 4.88
35"s = 5.29
before i 3linked my 87runner i was running 31's with stock 4.10 gearing and a detroit in the rear. 4.7 geared single case, sliders. i would air down and gear down. ran every decent trail in the eastern sierras and death valley. used to run with all the jeep groups that would come thru here...
what are you going to put the taco elocker in? its a 8.4 diff.
but.... i have a set of brand new NIB Nitro HT/forged 5.29 gears avail. for the 8.4 if you need them :) I bumped up to the 9.5" gears in my rear axle on my crawler, so these went unused.
keep it stock IFS, see where it...
SCORE!!!
are you going to keep the '82?
Cuz you could pillage the Crawler and build a new, more street able crawler with a majority being parts you already own.
If you are keeping both- Id go Blazeland LT. (might go this route anyway cuz it'll take you where u described)
His cheapest kit...
without being there to play with it, i don't have any ideas. sorry.
I do know it does need to be in neutral to engage the 4low. Not moving. It is an electrical solenoid, maybe it needs replace? or ???
keep us updated on the solution.
Sorry i missed this!
Thanks for the post abakker, and welcome to the forum! Throw up some truck photos, if not a thread, then just in the Tundrabirds Thread.
So, No noise or wear in my uniball UCA's noted as of now. As in, they do not squeak at all. The billet cover over the uni works...
the only real solution aside from wiping the interior down in am........... stop breathing. so, there it is- pick up a cute towel with your fav. design on it
Luckily, we both live in dry climate with no humidity. Mine will dry out quickly with the top up and air movement.

Northstars Look great on the Crewmax- but how could i say any different ;)
Keep those pics coming.

Im stalled out in the middle of a 3.4 swap in my '87. 22re to 3.4. Cant wait to hear how you like it. Need motivation to get back at it (and some time-n-$$)

originally i just had the strap running between the cab and body down to the frame.
When i added the sliders, i welded a hook onto the slider at the frame. the strap attaches smoothly in an area that now has no abrasion possibilities. Still runs between cab and bed and attaches to the...
I have always babied my gears on breakin!
mild driving for first hundred, mellow driving for first 500. No towing or hauling first 500. change gear oil out at 500.
first 4 drives- 10-15 minutes then let cool for 20min. between each. that should get to your first 100.
front is tougher...
i have a 4WU 3link front on my 87runner. Its amazing. does very well on the street and much better in the rocks. If you don't play in the rocks i would go Long travel, but if you see yourself on the tougher crawling trails AND playing in the desert, i think you could be very happy 4WU linked...
