How do you carry your Thetford portable toilet?

We carry ours inside the van, inside a custom cabinet. We fill the flush tank before we leave and carry it in various states of "full" inside the van for days at a time with zero issues. It gets emptied/sanitized once we're back at home.

    Awning with side panels/nets

We have the ARB 2500 (x 2500), and we've been very happy with the "bug room" on ours. I have eyeballed the new "full tent" model that includes roll windows w/ screens, etc. but we have plenty of sleep/live space inside the van, so we mainly use the bug room for food prep/eating if the buzzies...

Charging with Blue Sea inline or not?

I will add to this and say that ideally you should be fused as close as possible to *all* voltage sources. Think about what happens if you have a long cable from solar charge controller to battery and pinch it in the middle. If the fuse is close to the battery, it'll blow, saving the battery...

2000 Astro Van AWD Engine / Trans Replacement.

Cam, I'd like to invite you to come visit the ASV gurus at http://astrosafarivans.org. Our forum over there will probably be better able to answer your specific questions. I haven't done anything engine-out on my Astro, but several others have. I think generally it's easiest to go out...

    Personal Items

We've used the Flatpacks too. My wife was cross when I told her that's all the space she got for a week-long road/camping trip, but she made do (and found a few places to stash bigger items like 2nd shoes and a jacket). I've re-worked the storage area where we used to use them and they don't...

    Hanging pocket/storage/camping organizer source?

Ooooh! I like that. So far, that's the first seat-back organizer I've seen that will work in our (GM) van. Those pesky pedestal-back seats without separate headrests eliminate a lot of options. I can solve that low-back attachment no problem.

    2005 F-450 4x4 Utility Body w/ Starcraft Pine Mountain Lonestar Pop-top Camper

Just be sure you're getting an accurate quote - you'll probably need a somewhat special service box unless the camper was modified to fit a regular box. (Usually they need to either be wider than normal or have shallower side cabinets so that the "bed" is wide enough for the slide-in.)

Fridge high or low... on the drawers or at floor level. Input needed

I have a different style of vehicle, but I went High, with a front-opening fridge, specifically to free up some really valuable storage volume. In my case, I spent literal years trying to find the best place to put a chest-fridge, but was constantly finding that the need to leave room over the...

    XPCamper V2 (Camper only) - $37,000

Can you comment on the suitability of sleeping 2 adults, 1kid in the V2? Hard to tell from the interior photos if the side dinette can be converted and function like a bed while the cabover bunk is extended. I also imagine it'd be... "cozy". Nevertheless, a 2+1 setup is our "bare minimum".

On board water systems questions. Specifically check valves and venting.

Works for air intake when dispensing water, but unless your water fill system is also vented, you'll have a lot of burps and problems on filling. Since Drew mentioned to be using hose-filling, this can be especially problematic. The super-simple solution is just to run an open small-diameter...

    Hanging pocket/storage/camping organizer source?

Ikea sells these. At $6/pop, I bought a couple. One of them was cut down to partial-length and hangs on my fridge cabinet (on the left): For the cheap shoe-hanging racks (for the backs of doors, etc.) the usual thing is to just cut them to the needed length. TONS of options there.

    Road shower water heating

I don't think the math is going to work out on the heating element. See here for the source on my formulae, so you can check my work, but: Formula for heating water inside tank: Gallon Per Hour (Electric) = (KW x 3413) divided by (temp. rise x 8.25) You're proposing a 300W heating element...

    VW Syncro Westfalia 4x4

It does have the KEP CARB sticker, which should help quite a bit, but yes given that it has newer heads, a California buyer could be in for a long road.

L track for mounting heavy items to exterior of camper?

CampervanCulture in the UK sells a kit for the VW vans. I've done something similar but only for lightweight stuff (traction mats and shovel) on my Astro van.

EPIC Equipt Warehouse Sale! (Thread 1)

Thanks. I've seen it, trying to answer my question. I know the cans can be locked in, but I'm trying to understand which types of cans (if any) are secure against siphoning, as mentioned in the ad-copy on their site. It seems like the pivoting bar on the front-end will interfere with the...

EPIC Equipt Warehouse Sale! (Thread 1)

Hi Paul, I'll give a call when I'm able, but can you confirm that the Jerry Can holder actually secures (locking) the cap on a NATO style jerry cans? It seems like it does in some of the photos, but I can't find a close-up (or user manual) to confirm. Secondly, can you confirm that the Dual...

Pics of your VAN! Post up!

There are worse reasons to sell a van. At least you'll have the land and the cabin to point to. Dad promised me the '63 Triumph TR4, then sold it when I was just months from getting my driving permit. Haven't quite gotten over that some 25+ years later (obviously), but a trade-off for those...
