Sounds like a reasonable vehicle. Sounds like a reasonable rig. Personally I would not worry about the oil change freqency. As others have said, the 3.4L is a strong motor. Only thing to watch for is Timing belt, water pump, thermostat, coolant lines replacement. It's due if it has not...

Listen well young grasshopper! Too funny, you know when to listen at least! Glad the dents got repaired and you were able to take it on it's maiden voyage. Fun times.

Transfer case or ADD Actuator issue. This could be two separate issues. One it could be your trasfer case actuator. This is a very common issue due to road salt and our climate. You could pull the actuator out and hit the 4WD switch to test operation. I have not done it personally but...
