So I re-greased and assembled the gear side today.
Everything is working the way it should by hand. I can set it to free spool and lock it in great. Now I just have to get the solenoids going.
GVWR is based on a lot of principles in how the vehicle is manufactured.
Brakes
Suspension
Axles
Transmission/ T case
Frame
And also vehicle weight and manufacturing components.
If you find yourself needing to upgrade all of these things it may be time to upgrade your vehicle to a 1/2 or 3/4...
Axles definitely are not an issue. I used to haul a lot of weight with my Tacoma for work. I was doing construction in New Orleans after Katrina and I had to haul EVERYTHING to the job site in the morning and load it all back up in the evening. People would rob you blind if you didnt, that...
Thanks for the info. Do you think I may be able to find some similar solenoids at an auto parts store or something along those lines?
I have heard that the M8000 used the same motor and that you can get the solenoids at NAPA.
Well I have tested the motor and it works. I have some kind of problem in the solenoids though. I am not sure if one or more of them is bad. I am calling it a day and we try and test the solenoids this weekend.
I see why the free spool switch was locked up. Looks like some water sat in these gears.
After a good cleaning, this should spool a little easier.
I am coating the outside in a high performance enamel.
Its not in as bad of shape as I was thinking it would be on the inside. It still looks a little rough though. Everything seems to be intact. I am going to clean all of the connections and the motor and see where we get.
My buddy, who mainly uses his rig for weekends at the OBX uses a tank. He says he has plenty of air for the weekend. If I were going any longer than that I would rather have a compressor though.
I am tearing into a Warn MX 6085 that came on my Land Cruiser when I purchased it. It doesnt work and the free spool switch is stuck. If anyone has any advice I am all ears. I have never rebuilt a winch before. I'll post up pictures tomorrow.
If it works for you then there is nothing wrong with it. You can use a Subaru Outback or a 250 dirt bike if it works. Keep on testing your Honda. If at some point you exceed what your Ridgeline is capable of, then upgrade.
