The Defender NEEDS a cage, it's roof/body structure is only slightly stronger than an empty soda can. I suspect the Grenadier's roof structure offers more than adequate protection, particularly for a low speed rollover. Not sure that the interior 'mess' is worth it here, but to each their own...

I think 16" tire size options have been dwindling in general. Far more options in the 17" class these days, like the very cool 285/75-17 offered by Mickey Thompson, unfortunately it is only in their AT, but love the Tall (34.6") narrow size..

Have you heard of the Grenadier? Much of the charm of a Defender, easily optioned triple locked, high capacity (dual batteries) electrical system, heavier duty driveline components, high load capacity, cabin that seals well, much safer than an Old Defender could hope to be, all with a warranty...

Can use tether lines on shackles if you are concerned. It is another piece of equipment to carry, and another step to take, but if you want to be safe..

Possibly, thought an email to the company can probably get you specs on the material and a determination if it can 'stand up' to storing gasoline and/or diesel fuel. I suspect there is a good chance it can, and it is more legal/safety/epa issues preventing it being advertised for fuel storage...

I'm always keeping an eye out for a 1st gen Sequoia. Love following the build. That spare tire carrier is by far the best looking solution I've seen for the sequoia. Not sure if it is feasible without the body lift or not, but definitely very clean, WELL DONE! Let me know when you get tired...
